my limitations of language (not only in English)
and my intellectual limitations
are not limitations then?

You know that smiley implies you're sorry or something... look at its eyebrows

I wish we’d stopped somewhere civilised.
We live on a ridge.
West runs a coastline whose ribbon
of sharp shell-grit sand gives way
to black mud and mangroves.
East, rubber vines dot a wasteland of saltpans,
white-streaked and cracked from the sun.
Just south is a town
where some people huddle
in caravan parks, and some camp
in water tanks or cars under trees
on the side of the road.
It looks like it changed hands
in a card game, this mottled collage
of canvas and timber and corrugated tin,
perched as it is on one side of a river.
It looks like it wants to fall in.
Big pub, small school, a rust shuttered store
selling food, pumping petrol, and handing out mail.
Capriciously open a few hours a day
to shift-workers from the prawn factory,
deck-hands for the gold-rush at sea.
I wish we’d stopped somewhere civilised.
that is beautiful - thanks

Re: poetry thread
...thanks Catherine. I went on a poetry-writing jag a few years ago. I thought I'd lost them all when the computer crashed. I've made hard copies of everything but it's been so long since I've looked at them I don't recognise them as mine. I don't remember writing them either.

Vodka tirade
by blue moon
I always wanted to reach for the sun,
but a step off the wagon,
a giant golden pack of cigarettes
and a vodka tirade
brought me undone;
and no, a vodka tirade is not a drink but an attitude,
akin to a fiery spit, also not a drink,
though it sounds like a good one…a mellow reflection
would never sell. The popular drinks are the ones
that take you to Hell. In Paradise guise.
But I digress. A vodka tirade is a kind of a fit
that feels just fine when you’re having it
but leaves you desperate with shame
when its over, as sober, into a painful new day
consciousness creeps coldly and leaves you numb
your body, after a vodka tirade, has a kind of a still-birth,
the kind of deathly inertia that floors you,
and only a groan escapes or animates your shell.
Some find remnants of earlobe in their teeth.
Such vodka tirades are locally famous; Eric and Bruce
had a fabulous rant, though secretly both give
sober thanks the horror of a rum rebellion,
the spiralling dive into a tequila tangent
was spared them.
Thank god the shutters came down.
Anyway, I always wanted
to reach for the sun,
but a fall off the wagon,
a giant golden pack of cigarettes
and a vodka tirade
brought me undone.

Re: poetry thread
yesterday I was going to order something to drink (I usually drink just beer) and I thought "I'm going to drink vodka"... why vodka? haha
But I finally drank Hendricks gin with cucumber and tonic... it tastes very good and I usually don't like gin tonic
No hang over here today...

Re: poetry thread
...that sounds like a nice drink...refreshing.
I wrote that poem about 18 years ago. I hardly drink at all these days (I'm glad to say).
I have to admit that now that I'm not wild, I'm glad that I once was.

...can I borrow that for a poem title asdf?Vera Cruz wrote:I'm unglad I've never been wild... I think

Re: poetry thread
...it's not correct usage. The opposite of 'glad' is more correctly 'sad''Vera Cruz wrote:Yes but you have to pay me
Does the word unglad exist at all?
But 'unglad' is poetically lovely.

Moony was wild
but now she just resigns
herself to be witty,
wildly witty...
what a drag!
