...thank you nash.
Although she'd suffered poor health for a long time, Mum died, it seems peacefully, in her sleep.
You have to give thnks for that.

Hey eddie, otro, pinz, user. mac, constance, doc and any other diehards on this forum.
I haven't willingly abandoned posting here. About 7 years ago I suddenly lost about 80 % vision in my right eye, and developed poor vision in the other. It was diagnosed as macular degeneration...the disease that caused my mother's blindness at a relatively young age. Over time the vision in my left eye improved enough so that I could distinguish faces again and read the large clock on the wall as well as print. It threw me for six and I went into a sad freefall for about a year as I waited to go blind. Wonderfully my eyesight barely deteriorated over the years and I've led an active life with a sense of appreciation for my sight, such as it has been. On my recent venture working at sea for 3 months I drank in every sunrise and sunset and every mood of the weather, the sea, and the sky...just in case. A few days ago I suddenly couldn't distinguish the keys on the computer's keyboard, or read the clock-face, or read print. it caused me to panic and feel sick and unable to eat. But my sight's stabilised a bit now. I don't know for how long. So every waking moment I'm spring cleaning my house and yard and paperwork in case I'm suddenly unable to do so.
Unless it's not possible, I'll return when I've sorted things. On the bright side, at least it happened when I have the next few months off work.
\ah...the thingd I've seen!

Are you going to see what the doctor says? when is it expected you return? Hope it's just something like the "heart attack", or at least not so sudden. But I'm sure you'd manage a way to tell something sometime if the worst was the case, right? I'm with you from here. Love you moonyblue moon wrote:Unless it's not possible, I'll return when I've sorted things.

There's a blazing light above the keyboard and the text is magnified so I'm in business
Thanks for your words and photos otro. You know I love you too and that I'll always keep in touch somehow no matter what.
Thanks pinz. I intend to utilise every available aid as time goes by.
Eddie...I was intending to visit the UK in November with the unexpected wealth from the prawn hunt...a great friend moved there recently and she has a spare room. I'd intended to track you down for a cup of tea...the trip's uncertain now because the tests on my eyes and possible treatments are expensive
User...the video was the first post of yours that I've ever truly understood. Thank you, sincerely.
So I dealt with my misery as I usually do. I went to bed for 3 days, didn't eat, and indulged myself by wallowing in a mire of tears and depression. It did the trick...I'm bored with that now.
We only have a doctor that flies in twice a week. Our doctor of the last 10 years recently retired and the new one, being unattuned to the locals and bombarded by the hordes of elderly tourists (the Grey Nomads) is booked solid for the next 3 weeks and of course there's no eye specialist for over 500 miles. So I've got an appointment in Cairns next Wednesday. From past experience and tests I don't think there's much to be done, but it feels good to be taking action after my recent slumber.
The wallowing time was pretty good in a weird way. I arose this afternoon and rode my bike to the cemetery. I shed a tear for my dad and berated my mother for not loving me. Tomorrow I'm going to plant a desert rose in the sand of her grave and tell her I forgive her. Because I do. When I came home I rang my youngest daughter's father, about whom I've been bitter for an amazing amount of time and who I didn't think would take the call because the last time I saw him I flung a cup and an ashtray at him. I'll be in his vicinity in October and we're going to walk along the beach and celebrate all that was good in our years together.
I'll keep in touch. Take care

I'm not hard to find, Moony. Let me know how things work out. If you can make it, I'll give you a guided tour of The East End. I'm sure we can manage something stronger than a cuppa, too. All best wishes.blue moon wrote:Eddie...I was intending to visit the UK in November with the unexpected wealth from the prawn hunt...a great friend moved there recently and she has a spare room. Re: where's Moony?
In the middle of the 2nd treatment. Injections into the eyes...eerrrggghhhh. It's to be an ongoing and expensive procedure for the rest of my life...a logistic and economic nightmare...but I'm not complaining and will have to find a way because I seem to be one of the lucky one-in-three that responds well to treatment.
My dinosaur-PC at home won't access the internet or comply with most of my demands...so soon I'm going to buy a laptop and haunt this forum again. I look forward to that
(I'll let you know, eddie)

Re: where's Moony?
Oh Moonie, I just found the posts you posted here in September and October. Sorry I missed them when they were current. How wonderful that would have been if you had gone to the UK in November. too bad that didnt work out! I would have loved to think of you and Eddie getting together in London! I have been thinking about you all day and I look forward to your reply at the other place. You wrote that the MD only flies into your town twice a week, and I think I remember back when you had to travel to see a dentist. How did you end up in such a remote place and how did your mother get there? Did she follow you? I was interested in what you wrote about your mother. You must tell me the whole true story in a PM. My parents followed me to Pawling, moved a few houses close. My dad whom I loved died about 7 yrs ago. My mom at87 is very independent but we have a problematic relationship. I'll tell you about it.
How long will you be in Cairns where the treatment is, and can the MD bring the treatment. With him for you when you return home? If you don't mind, tell me where you live so I can find you on a map. Australia is such a big place. I am 64 miles north of NYC.
BTW, I don't go to the cemetery anymore. used to. haven't been in years.

Hi Constance. I'm just about to head out the door. I'll PM you later on when I get home. Don't be confused about the two blue moons on the forum at the moment. The one holding the glass of beer is otro. Take care...talk soon. x

Why Otho, why are you using Blue Moon's name? That is rather annoying and confusing. I don't see any sense in apropriating anyone else's name.
Talk to you later, Moonie. I am going back on line and on the phone to the New York State Affordable Care Act people to go further into the bewildering world of US health care coverage. The NYState website breaks down, very discouraging.

Re: where's Moony?
And today I'm at the local Australia Day awards and I met Tim Page. I've been a fan of Tim's since I taught some apathetic high school kids about the Vietnam War. I came across his photos and used them to make the kids pay attention.
"His unusual personality was part of the inspiration for the character of the journalist played by Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now."
It was a privilege to meet Tim. I saw his war photographs in Vietnam. Here's one of them:

Re: where's Moony?
Quick message. Due to my laptop being left outside in a deluge I am now solely dependent on my iPhone to access the internet. This is my second iPhone. I dropped the previous one in a bucket of paint. I haven't been keeping up with events in the forum because this little phone screen is just so tedious. I'm vetoing buying anything unless it's necessary to support physical life because my finances have dwindled and ... We'll I just can't afford anything yet. Sigh. When I get a chance I'll access a public computer and report in. Hope you're all doing well.
