Australia - Your impressions?
Whenever I see that someone is from Australia on the internet I can never take them seriously anymore, because I always read their posts in my head as Steve Irwin.
Here's what people do for fun down there:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planking_(fad)
Crazy place.

Re: Australia - Your impressions?
Fascist state police rule, and overzealous, overcranked political correctness have ruined a country that should be proud of its convict heritage. Sad to see. I'd get kicked out- gladly.

Re: Australia - Your impressions?
the governments and other related departments in Australia suck (big time)
The landscape and countryside is magnicificent.
i am Australian and i am okay......
some other posters even like me because i am Australian, i have been told.
hi-top, please don't think we are all alike to Steve Irwin, he is just one of us.
contrary to popular belief.....there is NO such thing as a typical Aussie.

Re: Australia - Your impressions?
Sadly Australia is gaining a bad reputation around the globe, but i guess that is no better or worse than other countries.
as i said...our government is quite backwards in its thinking
in answer to the topic subject.....
Australia is a lovely place to live.
it is becoming very crowded now,
but for those of us who grew up in Australia of the 50's, 60's and 70's....living here has been absolutely peaceful & serene.
hi-top, that way of growing up....where we played in the backyard, and we played in the creeks, and we did not know of the future or the disasters and dangerous peoples that would grow.......might not suit you.
We even climbed jacaranda trees, and mango trees.
it wouldn't suit my kids....they are very tech minded, and for my 16y/o son in particular....unless it has a USB cable, it is pretty much very boring.

Re: Australia - Your impressions?
From what I have seen and observed during my occasional ventures overseas Australia is no better or worse than anywhere else.
The people here mainly have the same likes and dislikes that you find elsewhere.
True we have a government which has lost its way. But so have many other countries.
The cities are certainly becoming overcrowded and the urban sprawl is forever expanding .However there are still vaste areas where you can walk in the bush and see native animals.
For example I live next door to a staste forest I go for a walk or run there nearly every day . I often see echindnas, kangaroos and native birds. I see many native plants and shrubs.
All in all I think Australia is a good place.

I've only been to Perth, and south, down the West coast. Both were beautiful. Real sense of isolation out there though, even in Perth itself. You've got 3000 miles of a barren Australian interior to the East, and 6000 miles of ocean to the West, before you hit Africa.

Re: Australia - Your impressions?
When I think of Australia it pops an image of a desert or an arid place on my mind
I've been told they're like Americans.
I used to see "Heartbreak High" when I was a teenager.
Don't know more.

it is a beautiful place, there are deserts but we also have some wonderful beaches, rainforests and mountains.

Re: Australia - Your impressions?
well, it doesn't have the anarchy and richness of Spanish culture......but it's a very pleasant and lovely place to live......
the best thing about it is the diversity where Europeans and people from all over the world live in relative harmony
I probably have a lot more to say about it but I'm just going through this European phase right now.....
I used to pine for America and Canada - now I pine for Europe.....
and I want Torin to be introduced to Spain and France and Italy...(and both of us to Greece)
he's fluent in Spanish and learns Italian at school

Looks like everywhere else in the world, to be honest. Even shitty England still has some nice scenery.

Re: Australia - Your impressions?
It is a land of amazing contrasts
Densely populated cities...... sparsely settled inland areas
Snowy Mountains ........ Huge Dry Deserts
Settlements more Anglo Saxon than most of England........... Areas more international than many other cities
Some incredible wild life .............Lots of introduced pests.
I could go on and on but you get the idea . For example there are areas like Tully where it rains nearly 200 days a year and other places where rain may not be seen upwards of 5 years.

I have always thought Jagger did a passable version of the song.
It was not however a classic movie.
