Long Lost Friend
As aggravating and silly as Facebook can sometimes be, it does have its good side. Last year I searched for, and found, a childhood friend of mine who I wasn't sure was even still alive. She and I were best friends from Jr. High school, grew up in the same neighborhood and were inseperable back then. We drifted apart during high school and then one day she was gone, dropped out of school when we were 16. I thought about her often over the years, and would ask anyone I ran into if they had news of her, but it was like she had disappeared altogether.
It took me about 2 minutes to find her on FB, and when I saw her picture I knew right away it was her. It was quite exciting for both of us to reconnect, and since then we have traded emails and talked on the phone, trying to catch up on all the lost years.
So tomorrow I am driving to Des Moines and we will meet in person! She now lives in Colorado, but will be in Des Moines to visit her daughter. I have a huge stack of pictures to bring along, and my old high school yearbooks, and we are set for a marathon gab-fest!
Coincidently my 40th high school reunion takes place this weekend, but rather than seeing a bunch of old farts who I didn't like back then anyway, I will get to visit with the one person who I have wished for years to see

cheers tigerlily.
it is always good to catch up with old friends.
it helps to see where you have been and how well you have landed where you are......

We had a fabulous time! It was 24 hours of non-stop talking! And so comfortable.....all the years melted away.

Re: Long Lost Friend
I had a very strange experience at work yesterday.
A customer glances at my staff name badge and asks me if I come from Ealing (a West London borough), which I do, of course.
Since it's company policy that we never disclose personal information of that kind, I deny it (alarm bells ringing).
But.... OK says the customer, it's just that i used to have an old school chum of that name- and off he trots.
Well, I didn't much like my school - an all-boys Catholic Grammar- and there's nobody in my class I'd particularly care to reconnect with.
But ever since yesterday I've been racking my brains trying to figure out just who this guy was. I have a mental image of quite a few of my classsmates at 15 yrs old, I suppose, but obviously none of them bore the remotest resemblance to this grey-haired, dwarfish, Lycra-clad cyclist with the posh accent.
Altogether, quite a disconcerting experience.
But, mulling the whole thing over, since I deal with hundreds of punters evey working day it's statistically quite surprising that such an incident has never happened before in the course of the past 12.5 years I've been doing this job.

you are lucky to have made a re-connection with a classmate from your past.
i had a terrible time at school because of my dad being a drunk, and i did not fit in too well.
making and keeping friends was very difficult
i stayed friends with one girl from high school, she still attends our birthday parties and so forth....but i have no idea where the rest of my former classmates are.
i guess most of them would have turned out okay, who knows

Re: Long Lost Friend
I know of two of my former classmates who are now dead: one suicide, one motorcycle accident.
