A death in the family
My friend and colleague George's mother died yesterday.
He's off work.
I've texted him.
He'd bought his mum a new Kindle for Christmas because she's always loved reading.
Oh dear, oh dear.
Very difficult to know what to do or say in these circumstances.
We're having a whip-round at work and buying some flowers.

I also think it is difficult to know what to say but if you showed him your support you gave him some comfort somehow, even when there's no cure for what have happened.

This might, in time, be the right place for a bereavement thread.

Thank you, Tats.
In a while, I might develop this thread with a few personal illustrations. But not quite yet, I think.

Re: A death in the family
I have a personal recollection but I keep it to myself. Too sad.
Ed, keep in touch with your friend, just call and email a lot. What got me through a bad stretch twenty years ago was people calling me and sending me notes frequently.
Losing a mother is sad but not debilitating. It's nice of you to be concerned for your friend.
