The Time-Space continuuum warps on planet NHS under the dominion of the evil warlord Cameron. How long is 7 days? It's difficult to say. There are many imponderables:

1. I had the X-Ray about 10am on Thursday 19th April. Do I start counting from Thursday 19th or from Friday 20th?

2. Are we talking 7 WORKING days here (i.e. Monday-Friday only)? Do I discount the Saturday and Sunday? I know people still get admitted to hospital at weekends so radiographers must presumably still be on duty then, but you never know...

3. How long will it take to despatch the plates/analysis thereof from the hospital to my local medical centre, from where I'm supposed to collect the results?

4. How chaotic will the reception desk/appointments diary/switchboard systems be at the medical centre this time?

By the most optimistic projection, the very earliest I can expect the results will be Wednesday (i.e. the day after tomorrow) but I'm not holding my breath.

It's all faintly irritating because I'd planned a week's vacation in the Brecon Beacons (Powys, mid-Wales) at the end of this week but I obviously want to know the results of the X-Ray before I leave. If you don't book a rail ticket in advance but buy it on the day of departure you end up paying through the nose. But it looks like that's what I'm going to have to do.

...I can't open the link eddie.

What a dilemma.
It sounds like a holiday is just what you need, but a holiday without peace of mind isn't all that that therapeutic.
I only consult doctors when I collapse.
My remedy for just about everything is to lay in the sun.

I've done a silly thing. There hasn't been enough unloading on one wharf to keep me busy so yesterday I signed up for night shift at the other cold storage facility (where the fleet of private boats unload). So suddenly, of course, every boat (it seems) is coming in to unload. I go in to one wharf at 11pm tonight and at 6.30 next morning jump off that wharf and run over to the other wharf to unload boats on day shift....oh dear. I hope they won't have to cart me up to the clinic because I collapse affraid
I found a heat-rub liniment that I'm banking on to keep me from seizing up (ah...the magic power of belief!)

sigh

...anyway eddie, I hope the results are good and the holiday restores you. Very Happy

Seven more days. All I have to do is survive- and then I can go here:

Brecon Beacons National Park, Powys (mid-Wales).

I'd planned to stay near the bottom right-hand corner of the map: the Crickhowell area.

I googled: Crickhowell looks lovely (only 2000 people).
Wouldn't you think that, as you work within the transport system, you would get a fabulous discount on rail travel!

My staff pass gives me free travel in the Greater London area.

If you joined the company some years before I did, you get travel concessions on National Rail journeys, ferries, all kinds of other transport. But 'they' got rid of those discounts before I signed up.

IBM employees used to be called "true blues," but I think the dress code has loosened up since those days.

Got the X-Ray results this morning in another 'telephone consultation' with someone claiming to be a doctor.

Heart & Lungs: Normal.

So that's that, then.

How long has this 'consultation' lasted? Must be at least 6 weeks. The stress! No wonder my blood pressure's higher than it ought to be! Suspect

Did you get your own blood pressure monitor yet? You might find that your BP is much lower at home than it is when The Doktor takes it.

Also, now that you're retired, do you have a bike?

Finally--the best thing for good cholesterol is ethanol; so have 1-2 drinks daily (ideally with a lady ).

When I got up this morning, my blood pressure was 139/79.

Now it's 117/63.

Nothing like 4 cups of coffee to cure what ails you. Laughing

Clinical tests prove that coffee can improve your state of mind--or at least change it. Take note of the differences observed in the test subject.

Before coffee:

After coffee:

If you smoke, you'll have to drink twice as much coffee to recover your health.
