I had a dream about a dragonfly in clear waters but I'm not the kind of person that would share dream stories on the internet, thank you

You can accidently scoop up lots of dragonflies if you ever have a job collecting Aedes Vexans. geek

well since you're asking, the dream that I had when my young dog was about to die (although we didn't know it would be so serious I guess we were seeing it) was not really a dream. I was very stressed and would see images, as with dreams, just by lying down and closing my eyes without calling for it. I saw a fully transparent dragonfly sinking slowly in clear waters but I took no part in the dream, I was not there, so I could not use my hands to scoop it up. I know I'm telling something cheesy as hell     but it was very beautiful, although it felt sad it was more driven with love

I don't think that's cheesy.

What's weird is that the larva stage is most of the critter's life--when they do all of their work and eating--then they turn into something else that can fly, but they never eat again; the new purpose is just to have sex and die.

It reminds me of an old Russian movie about a type of butterfly that emerges from it's cacoon on a particular day, and all of the butterfies of that variety hatch out on the same day.

A young man took a beautiful girl out in a rowboat on the night when the butterflies hatched and they were flying around everywhere in a thick swarm.

Of course the young couple knew that the butterflies had only one thing on their minds, and that they would all be dead in 24 hours.

What do you do if you only have 24 hours to live?

I think the question was "If we know we are going to die, why do we live?"

Albert Camus gave one answer in The Myth of Sisyphus: "Sisyphus is happy, because he has his very own rock."

Walking Around
By Pablo Neruda (English Translation by Robert Bly)

It so happens I am sick of being a man.
And it happens that I walk into tailorshops and movie
houses
dried up, waterproof, like a swan made of felt
steering my way in a water of wombs and ashes.

The smell of barbershops makes me break into hoarse
sobs.
The only thing I want is to lie still like stones or wool.
The only thing I want is to see no more stores, no gardens,
no more goods, no spectacles, no elevators.

It so happens that I am sick of my feet and my nails
and my hair and my shadow.
It so happens I am sick of being a man.

Still it would be marvelous
to terrify a law clerk with a cut lily,
or kill a nun with a blow on the ear.
It would be great
to go through the streets with a green knife
letting out yells until I died of the cold.

I don't want to go on being a root in the dark,
insecure, stretched out, shivering with sleep,
going on down, into the moist guts of the earth,
taking in and thinking, eating every day.

I don't want so much misery.
I don't want to go on as a root and a tomb,
alone under the ground, a warehouse with corpses,
half frozen, dying of grief.

That's why Monday, when it sees me coming
with my convict face, blazes up like gasoline,
and it howls on its way like a wounded wheel,
and leaves tracks full of warm blood leading toward the
night.

And it pushes me into certain corners, into some moist
houses,
into hospitals where the bones fly out the window,
into shoeshops that smell like vinegar,
and certain streets hideous as cracks in the skin.

There are sulphur-colored birds, and hideous intestines
hanging over the doors of houses that I hate,
and there are false teeth forgotten in a coffeepot,
there are mirrors
that ought to have wept from shame and terror,
there are umbrellas everywhere, and venoms, and umbilical
cords.

I stroll along serenely, with my eyes, my shoes,
my rage, forgetting everything,
I walk by, going through office buildings and orthopedic
shops,
and courtyards with washing hanging from the line:
underwear, towels and shirts from which slow
dirty tears are falling.

Anybody know the rest of this poem? I can't find it.

Poem "Slaves" by George Slyvester Vireck 1884-1962. From his collection 'The Three Sphinxes and Other Poems'.

No puppet master pulls the strings on high
Proportioning our parts, the tinsel and the paint
A twisted nerve, a ganglion gone awry
Predestines the sinner or the saint

Each held more firmly than by hempen bands
Slave of his entrails, struts across the scene
The malnutrition of some gland
Makes him the Ripper or the Nazarene

DNA is important, but behavior is the result of DNA interacting with an environment ... so it would be glands, plus circumstances

I don't agree with the setiment of the poem. It inspired a Roy Boulting film starring his wife Hayley Mills. It was a really strange film and it quoted that poem throughout. I wanted to read the rest of it in order to make an informed critique of it

That's the one. I was dead tired wat hing it and missed the end. I googled it next day to see what happened and that's where I came a ross the poem. The movie was widely criticised at the time for implying that to have Downes Syndrome ( called Mongolism then) meant you were hard-wired to be a psychotic murderer. And if you were one, you were personally faultless.
