Re: Safe Surfing
I only body surf.
I tried a board once but it was not enjoyable.
You need to pick the wave.
If you are lucky it will carry you all the way in to the sand.
Be careful of dumpers they can do you a lot of harm.

Fire fox seems ok but it has caused some problems one online banking site I use told me not to use fire fox when dealing with them as many of their clients had had log on problems.Strawberry Jam wrote:What do you do to make your surfing experience a safe and pleasant one?
Thought we could exchange tips here about our setup.
I'll start: I use Firefox, which has the great advantage of having some free add-ons that I can't imagine surfing without anymore:

Re: Safe Surfing
I run XP SP3 on an ageing Dell pc. Browser is IE8. Malware protection via BT Netprotect Plus (McAfee bundled, and rebadged, by my broadband provider, BT)
I run the freebie Malwarebytes from time to time as an extra set of 'eyes' to seek out malicious stuff.
But ... do we all backup our precious data? I run a regular backup routine using a program called GFI Backup 2009. It has proved invaluable.

Re: Safe Surfing
i have a scheduled backup happening every sunday night.
i have 2 externals.....one for the data (word docs, pictures and so forth) and the other is for my music.
my music is stored directly on the external and plays from there.
i have lost a lot of stuff by not having backups also
i also am supposed to do a backup of my emails but i forget usually.
what music players do people use?
i have the regular Windows Media Player that comes with Windows 7.
i have heard from most people that VLC is the best player, but i cannot make it play random tracks from my library (like it does in WMP).
it is probably just a setting that i have not discovered yet.
and i can't find the free version of that malwares thingy.....i am trying to put it onto Moony's PC.

Re: Safe Surfing
I use Jet Audio, Tats....I have four ears.....sorry, I mean, I have for years......
I use mozilla firefox.....had my computer for years and years - never crashed once......
Michael's real fault is that he's too honest and good at fixing computers.....
a lot of the other people doing it don't do it properly
so he ends up fixing someone's computer so well, that they never have any need to call him again.....
but they do tell all their friends....
I don't backup anything......
no need to as Michael built the computer......
he installed the virus software and all the other software.....

Re: Safe Surfing
...I have a question...
I madly tried to save stuff onto small memory sticks as my computer was flashing virus alerts

Now that I have a 'clean' computer, will I put the viruses or whatever the problem was back into the computer if I try to retrieve the data from the memory sticks?
I was about to copy some stuff I'd written about Antonin Artaud a long time ago...and when I couldn't find it realised it only exists on the memory stick.
