Game of Thrones

George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series has been adapted to television by HBO. And it's fucking great. I love Lord of the Rings and this is definitely similar, but it's much more about politics, conspiracy, mystery, etc, than about hobbits and elves killing black people. In fact, there aren't any hobbits or elves- there is a dwarf, but he's probably not what you expect. There really isn't any magic either.

Like Lord of the Rings it has a LOT of characters and a lot of exposition so the show hasn't really picked up yet (it's on the fourth episode right now), but every episode so far has still been very good.

I bought the book two or three years ago and only read a few chapters. The exposition and name dropping was too much for me so I gave up. I'm going to read the whole thing as soon as this season is over though (I want to experience the show as a show, and not know what happens in advance).
