Rod Stewart will reunite with the Faces for the first time in almost two decades at next month's induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
"Contrary to what some people might think, we're all still great mates and we've never said we wouldn't play together again," Faces drummer Kenney Jones revealed in an interview with Music Radar. "We all had dinner about a month ago and decided that the [ceremony] would be the perfect time and place."
Stewart hasn't performed with Jones, Ron Wood and Ian McLagan since the 1993 Brit awards, when he received an award for outstanding contribution to music. He sat out the Faces' recent reunion tour, ceding his parts to Mick Hucknall. This time, the musicians will reunite in various configurations to perform two Faces tracks and "an earlier hit" by the Small Faces.
"As to whether we'll do anything else after the Hall of Fame show, we'll just have to see how it goes," Jones said. "I'd like to think there's more to come, although it depends how everyone's individual schedules are shaping up."
It may also depend on the state of Stewart's voice. The singer rehearsed with the band a few years ago at their old practice space in south London. But "Rod's voice isn't what it was," McLagan admitted last year. "He had surgery on his vocal cords a few years ago and it's changed the way he sings. We basically had to relearn all the songs in different keys to accommodate [him] … and we all agreed that it just wasn't the same."
The Faces were formed in 1969, after the dissolution of Jones's and McLagan's previous group, the Small Faces. They recruited Stewart and Wood and went on to release four studio albums, including the No 1 hit Ooh La La. The Faces' original bass player, Ronnie Lane, died in June 1997.

Re: Rod Stewart & The Faces
Whatever happened to Rod Stewart?
One of the really great white male vocalists of the 1960's-1970's.
Elvis Costello urged Rod to let him produce an album, but Rod wasn't interested in anything approaching 'artistic credibility', considering the term too arty-farty to be worth discussing.
He'd decided he'd far rather be a star who sold records.

Re: Rod Stewart & The Faces
Small Faces/Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan has written a great memoir of that era:
He's worked with them all: The Stones, Dylan...er...Billy Bragg.
Highly recommended.

Re: Rod Stewart & The Faces
To illustrate my point above^.
Rod's career essentially describes a trajectory from this:

Gasoline Alley
...to this:

Do you think I'm sexy?

Just about the only thing I don't like about this great clip is Keef's very unfashionable trizers. What was he thinking of?
