Eric blotted his copy book bigtime here in the UK back in the 1970's when he gave his support to the right-wing anti-immigration (at that time, anti-black immigration) lobby. This was a bit rich (sic) coming from a man who'd built a successful career copying the work of black musicians.
The story has a happy ending though because the whole furore over Clapton's befuddled remarks led to the formation of the highly successful "Rock Against Racism" movement- and some great gigs!
