Police Snare Suspects With Free Beer Sting
Police have arrested 19 suspects after fooling them into ringing officers by promising free beer if they got in touch.
In an undercover operation, Derbyshire Police sent letters to dozens of people who had evaded arrest for several months.
They were asked to ring a marketing company to collect a free crate of beer.
A total of 19 suspects fell for the hoax and called the number, which put them straight through to Chesterfield Police Station.
A time and date was arranged for the free alcohol to be delivered but instead the suspects were arrested.
The sting formed part of Operation Rocky, a campaign targeting serious crime which is running across north Derbyshire until the end of November.
Chief Inspector Graham McLaughlin, who is leading the operation, said: "These suspects are people who have managed to evade arrest for some time so we have used different tactics to find them.
"It has been very cost effective as it can take a lot of time and money to track people down.
"We use a variety of methods to arrest those suspected of committing criminal offences and we will continue to use new tactics when necessary."
Those arrested are alleged to have committed offences including burglary, robbery and serious sexual assault.
Suspects were arrested from addresses in Chesterfield, Staveley, Alfreton and Ilkeston as well as Sheffield and Nottingham.

Re: Beer
Anyone wishing to arrest me could do worse than offering a free crate of this:

Re: Beer
Yesterday I drank this
It had a strong flavour that I liked
Of course I chose it because of the name

Re: Beer
Waw, I never even heard of it.
How was it? You don't happen to know which brewery it came from, do you?
In other news: since S&P downgraded Belgium we suddenly saw a swift move forward in the formation of what will become our new governement early next week. Our future MP is the french-speaking socialist Elio Di Rupo, son of an immigrant Italian miner, raised in poverty, homosexual, .... great story.
Anyway: he is really terrible at Dutch, especially when speaking. Which lead to a rather funny twist of phrase as during the press conference at which he presented the agreement.
He meant to say a phrase ending with: 'onze overheidsschuld terug dringen.' which translates to 'reduce our sovereign debt'.
But in the verb 'dringen' the 'ng' is pronounced just like the English 'to sing' - it's a word English speakers should be able to read out loud fairely adequately without instructions.
French speaking people on the other hand are unfamiliar with this 'ng'-sound and will usually pronounce it as 'nk', such as in 'to sink'.
So what Elio Di Rupo actually said to his dutch speaking citizens was: 'onze overheidsschuld terug drinken.'
And that translates as: 'drink back our sovereign debt'.
So I'm sorry, but you guys probably won't see me here too often in time to come as I'm on a mission of the utmost national importance!

Re: Beer
I'll follow Elio's advice in case it applies to Spain also
Wiki (Piraat):
Piraat is a Belgian pale ale, made by Van Steenberge brewery. It contains 10.5% alcohol, is hoppy, and is described as "powerful" with "lots of subtle flavors."

Re: Beer
I wonder if the alcohol percentage has any effect on how quickly we can drink back our soveirgn debt.
Anybody any insights on how Standards & Poors deals with this sort of things?
I just finished preparation for my goulash, which I will enjoy later this evening with a bottle of Ma Seguala, côte du Roussillion villages 2010.
A wine that might be apt for Pinz' great wines under $8,00 - thread as it was only € 5,99 per bottle and came as a recommendation of a fairly serious newspaper.
