Re: Finding old threads
Sadly, this seems to bring up only the first page of a thread. Useful as a starting point for redeveloping much-loved old discussions, though.

This is a little Off Topic, but how would you rate the United Kingdom's Socialized Mental Health~Care Services?

Re: Finding old threads
.....could someone tell me how to get a former page from an ATU topic that is word-highlighted in cache into AATU?

I'm going to have to attempt to apply my middle-aged technophobic synapses to this task- and I'm rather dreading it.
But it's got to be done.
There are quite a few threads on the old site I'd like to (at least partially) reinstate here. Firstly, because they were good threads. And secondly, because I'll never outstrip the Pinhed's post-count otherwise.
All that will have to wait until tomorrow, though. It's been a long, long day in the bowels of the London clay.

Re: Finding old threads
It's very easy. I just google-searched on "acrosstheuniverse" + "kickapoo" and recovered then entire Kickapoo Medicine Show thread.

Sorry, didn't understand a word of that.
Brain's just too tired.
Artaud
Banksy.
Beckett.
Beatles Ephemera......
Oh, lord! There's a lot to do.

Hey Eddie, I've searched for the Artaud thread with no success...I hope you can find it. Good luck.

I typed "acrosstheuniverse + antonin artaud theatre of cruelty" into my search engine and arrived at a result. The trouble is I don't know what to do next.
I can't find this "cache" to which SJ refers in his instructions (first post of this thread).
And when I click on the link, it just directs me to this site!

Re: Finding old threads
...when the list of sites comes up, don't click on the topic, but look at the bottom of the entry. 'cached' is there.
later...bugger...just tried it and no success

Re: Finding old threads
A lot of old sayings could be rolled out here: too many cooks; many hands; a trouble shared; etc. Wotever: here's the thread (never mind the size of the url - just feel the quality!)
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:hH2tOnsevS0J:acrosstheuniverse.forumotion.com/t3332-antonin-artaud-and-the-theatre-of-cruelty+acrosstheuniverse+%2B+theatre+of+cruelty&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&source=www.google.co.uk
(I just googled acrosstheunivers and "theatre of cruelty". Dunno why that should work when previous searches have been fruitless

That's fantastic, felix.
I've posted the link in the Theatre section, with due acknowledgements.
But what I really need to know (in words of one syllable) is how exactly I perform your resurrection trick with other threads I wish to salvage.
In other words, what EXACTLY do I need to do once I've obtained a Search result?

But there isn't! Not with my AOL Search engine, at any rate.
It's frustrating because I've obtained a result by typing "acrosstheuniverse + Beatles ephemera" with no problem at all.
But there is no sign of the "cache" of which you speak.
And if I click on the link itself, I just get redirected here!

Re: Finding old threads
Eddie
I googled acrosstheuniverse +"theatre of cruelty and got this result:

I've circled (OK, ellipsified...) the Cached thingy.
When I clicked on 'Cached', I got the following result (the pic is just the part visible on screen - the whole thing is the first page of the thread - which, sadly, is all that google caches
):
(In the address bar, at the top of the screen, is the very large url of the cached page)
It's a bit hit and miss - but if your remembered search term does appear on the first page of the thread, you should get a result.
Happy to help - shout if you need more (my hearing aid will be OFF.
