But it's hard to imagine a 4th year, all the women that have been waiting 3 years to see Icabbie properly shipped are livid.
However, since Ichabod is going to DC with the FBI, the logical choice to replace Lt. Abigail is the teenage spy.

This is just what the show needs--and the Disney writers should take over the script writing:

"def" and "possibl" don't go together. bounce

Maybe the teenage spy could teach Ichabod that DC is a town of "busy policy makers" who expect real answers, not "definite maybes." bounce

why use the word "definitely" in this context?

to affirm that SH's dire "on the bubble" status is not mere rumour-mongering in Gossipwood ... THINGS ARE GRIM

yes, it has some kind of fan base / following - but it's already been moved to the Friday Night Death Slot, and it's nowhere near a syndication quota

Since you had already cited an authoritative source, your supposition that you needed to give further assurance that the claim was "not mere rumour-mongering" had the effect of casting doubt on the authoritativeness of your source. bounce

Due to lack of imagination and daring.

Why didn't they realize the show needs a teenage spy? The pinhed thought of it without even being Californian. Cool

I am not a Californian, I am gub'mint.

There are those here who try to use the phrase "near certainty," which means nothing more than "not certain."

Making it "intensely not certain" changes nothing. bounce  bounce

as I already explained, the intensifier was serving to underscore the certainty that Sleepy Hollow was currently being reviewed by bean-counters as to its renewal, to distinguish my update from idle conjecture that often passes as entertainment news.

i don't give a curd about the show, i passed on the info in a spirit of friendliness to interested parties.

i don't know that you're gubmint, so much as you're [censored]

Name calling doesn't cut mustard.

The person being helpful here is the pinhed, for pointing out that when you cite an authoritative source, adding an intensifier weakens your point instead of strengthening it.

You can still thank me for this useful lesson in effective rhetoric, but I'm going to stop holding my breath waiting for that.

I never declared my sources to be always wholly authoritative- we, in the information gathering business must rely on a range of sources, with a range of authoritativeness. but in this case, the number of sources, and (more importantly) the nature of the sources pointed to a certainty regarding SH's UNDER SERIOUS REVIEW status

so yes, I could have typed

"my authoritative sources are saying SH is on the bubble"

but instead I typed

"my sources are saying SH is def on the bubble"

both sentences convey essentially the same information, they just convey the certainty in a different part of the sentence

Mustard metaphors don't cut mustard.

Makes for soggy, ineffective rhetoric.

You cited Sangeet, whom I have always understood to be the ultimate authority.

As for mustard--you see it's extremely easy to cut mustard, so if you can't cut that, you can't cut anything.

A metaphor, of course, is not a logical argument, but I wasn't rebutting a logical point, I was responding to a vile a personal insult.

Possibly I misread the earlier post because of the $6.99 Borsao Garnacha I opened upon hearing about the passing of our spiritual leader.

"There has been an association between the heat and piquancy of mustard and the zest and energy of people's behaviour. This dates back to at least 1672, when the term 'as keen as mustard' is first recorded."

i looked up the origin of "cut the mustard" and there are theories galore, but many of them smack of horsefeathers.

the first published appearance seems to be late 1800s, USA.

Sangeet says it could be a mangling of "pass muster"
