Alt-classical

Post  pinhedz on Tue May 17, 2011 9:45 am

I just read the term "alt-classical" in a newspaper review.

Anybody ever heard of such a thing?

Calling it "alternative" suggests it's an antidote for something.

Probably an antidote for atonalism, minimalism, and harmolodix.

They say this is alt-classical (isn't this what we used to call "new age?"):

I think that possibly "alt-classical" is an attempt to attract the generation that never had music lessons in school (as I understand it, schools don't teach music any more--is that right?) so alt-classical avoids anything that might be complex or confusing--like key modulation. geek
