I was on the computer at like 11:30 yesterday and saw a thread, wasn't sure if it was serious but then more and more started popping up and I heard about Obama was going to address the nation and it turned out to be legit.

I was not alive when he died so it wasn't really a surprise to me when I first heard he had died.

I do not know or care anything about "princesses"

The cost of a first class stamp had risen to 39p?

I'll never be able to forget it. I was standing in the queue at my local post office, when I got to the front, and asked for a first class stamp. Talk about walking hand in hand with history.

You should try it sometime. It can be quite exciting. You've never sent a Christmas card via your postal service then, I take it?

September 11 2001 World Trade Center

I was in a little village cafe on the outskirts of Madrid

Michael was at the bar ordering lunch - it had been a very relaxing day and we'd been looking at properties to buy in the town

I got to the counter and saw the twin towers with people jumping out of them and the plane crashing into the buildings.....

that TV image is the most memorable of my life

I bought all the British newspapers the next day

we boarded a plane for Australia ten days later and I was a mess......a complete mess

it devastated me

I was in my council flat bedroom in Camberwell and turned on the radio when I woke up to find out that Diana was dead.......it was such a shock.......

I was playing ping-pong in sand in the recreation area of a resort on Vilingili Island in the Maldives when Princess Diana married Prince Charles

I was sitting on a rocky beach on the island of Malta when I first heard someone sing 'Blowin' in the Wind' with a guitar

that's also where I first heard the Sex Pistols and Bob Marley

that's also where Midnight Express was filmed and where the Popeye movie set was which was about one third less in size than normal houses etc......

we used to get ripe figs off the trees to eat

and my Aunt made the nicest pasta I've ever tasted with ingredients she bought at the market - she made fresh mozzarella ravioli

just rambling now....hehehe

When Elvis Died
It was my wife's birtday and we were expecting our first child in a month or so. We were living in a country town called Gerang Gerung and were out driving when the news came on the radio . It was a strange moment.

That Bin Laden Was Dead

I was in the tub about 10 PM local time, when a friend texted me to ask if I was watching the news. My heart sank...I thought we'd been attacked by terrorists again. She wrote back that I needed to get out of the bath because Obama was about to address the nation, I nearly shrieked. Moments later, I received the message that Bin Laden had been killed and I felt much better. Fuck you Osama for disrupting my relaxing soak even in death!

My dad picked me up from school, I was 8, and told me that something really bad had happened in America, our family was ok but in the car on our way home I had to hold his phone up to the radio so my Mom on the other end could hear what was going on. I couldn't believe what what was happening.

Doc Watson wrote:That Bin Laden Was Dead
Mom came in my room to wake me up saying "I have two pieces of infomation for you, one will affect you short term the other long term. Dad's making pancakes for breakfast and Osama's dead"

The 7/7 bombing is a day I won't be forgetting in a hurry. It was the penultimate day of school before we broke up fo summer and the day of our annual inter-house dance competition at school. My house was doing Thriller and I was dressed up like a zombie. We were practicing all morning, then at morning break rumours went around that bombs had gone off in London. We all congregated in the front entrance in a surreal assortment of crazy outfits, crowded around a little tv trying to find out what was going on. There was mass panic because lots of peoples' parents work in London due to the close proximity. Plus the mobile networks were all down. What an absolute nightmare. Luckily my Mum had got through to dad to hear he was fine, and relayed this message on to me. My sister was at orchestra rehearsal then and I went to tell her Dad was ok. Our music director was pissed off that I had interrupted their rehearsal and made me tell the whole orchestra what I wanted to tell my sister. Turns out none of them knew what had happened...there was such a stunned silence...I felt so awkward. We carried on though, my house won the competition! Then we went home and spent hours watching the news, I couldn't believe the terrorists had finally come to us.

When Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt went missing in the sea off Portsea in December 1967 I was sitting at home writing christmas cards. It was the day before I started work in the Public Service.

my first memory is tipping a paint tin on my head when I was 2 . My mother claims I was told this and do not really remember it . I have memories of many things from the age of 3.

This tv show talked also about that. Indeed it was called "Inventamos el pasado" ("We make up our past").
My brother says he remember our greatgrandfather who died when he was 1. Of course he's seen the pictures of him and make up the rest in his mind.

my first memory as far as I can recall is walking down Killiney Hill to mass in a little frock hand in hand between my parents

I also remember my first fairy tale book - which was pink and I can still remember the thrill of seeing it new and opening it

when I was about 6 I started a club with the neighbourhood kids called the Wit Fit Club

we had little notebooks to write our witticisms in

and then we'd exercise.....heheheeh

the book I'm reading at the moment about writing your life story deals with memory (like what you said Guacamayo and doc hornblower)

about whether our early (or any) of our memories are real and true or just things we've been told or things we aren't remembering accurately.....

interesting
