the machinery digging the foundations and footings for the new unit complex that is being built near where i live.
big excavators and trucks

luckily, it is downwind of my kitchen so the diesal, dirt, dust ,and most of the noise will go away from us.
the pounding into the ground when they level it doesn't go away though, it just pounds

10 months of building and then the new people can move in, giving 12 families a subsidied home.
all for the benefit of the community. cheers Rolling Eyes

Sad Sad Sad
this is the development that we were relocated for, a couple of months ago. Evil or Very Mad
away from our comfortable home

into the house that is so different to what we had,
the complete opposite actually, door open back to front, and so many other changes..... Embarassed

but I will live within because there is love here. flower

happiness is still lurking somewhere, probably in one of the unpacked boxes,
if i have a good sleep it might be found when i wake up

the house itself is wonderful, all old timber (was neglected but is now springing into life) cheers
i really like it
.....it is just so small compared to what we had, & i am having 'a joyful time' adjusting to the new 'everything' pale

all for the benefit of the community. cheers Rolling Eyes

in the word of Paladin...."Fuck".

anyway, it is morning tea time on the work site now, so it is quiet again although it still feels like it is rumbling.
Must be the Echoes..

We are listening to the boot of Bob's concert last Thursday in Cork, first night of the tour.

The dust is the worst.

You might recall, Tats, that last year I posted a thread on ATUI called something like "Bob the Builder and his evil chums" describing both the modernisation work in and around my appartment block and the refurbishment project at work. I've been living on a building site for two years, so you have all my sympathy- I know it's hell.

A reminder of memorable dust I have known:

Dust on Fire Control Panel.

Dust on office computer screen.

Dust on office files.

Dust on messroom microwave.

...where I live it's the sound of generators in the Wet season that disturb me. We have a lot of power outages then. Often they last only a few minutes, but within seconds the residents along the street crank up the generators. They're like penis extensions around here, with everyone competing for the 'mine is bigger than yours' award!

yes eddie, i remember very well.

have they finished your upgrades? and are you settled back into your appartment?
i remember you talking about your bookcases being disturbed. how terrible.

the development near me does not impact on us in our house, other than noise and vibrations, and probably dust.

i was just annoyed because it is happening on the allotment that we had to move from.

here in the house we now live in....i am still unpacking.
i have given up to a certain degree, and i have moved the less needed possessions out to the shed in the back yard. that way i can deal with the important stuff here in the house and get to the other stuff later, and i am not falling over the clutter so much.

after all of the fuss i made about having to move....i have a funny feeling now that i really do have too much stuff...... affraid

the development near me does not impact on us in our house, other than noise and vibrations, and probably dust.

The refurbishment of my station is complete, except:

1. LU won't give the contractors the extra money needed to get the platform and booking hall dot matrix describer boards (which supply punters with train arrival & departure info) actually functioning which means that we're all standing there staring at a pile of very expensive but useless junk installed at great expence (£7.5 million) and inconvenience.

2. The air-conditioning/heating system in the office and mess room doesn't work properly, almost certainly because of the vast quantity of dust trapped in the internal electrical and mechanical parts when the trunking was being installed. It was hilarious! Management were desperately denying that there was any dust-related Health & Safety issue at Aldgate Tube station- and went so far as to get a functionary down from the Occuptaional Health Dept with a dust meter SIX MONTHS AFTER MOST OF THE WORK WAS COMPLETED to confirm this. Then the air-conditioning/heating system is switched on for the first time...and a great MUSHROOM CLOUD of DUST comes billowing out!!

3. Getting around London at weekends by Tube remains a living hell, with 6 or 7 lines suspended or part-suspended for the great Upgrade project. All well and good if the service was improving as a result, but it's not...it's actually getting worse- and Bob the Builder and his evil chums are draining the LU milch-cow of every drop of money they can while the going's good.

There is absolutely no way this network is going to be ready for the London 2012 Olympic Games. It doesn't work NOW. It couldn't possibly cope with millions of extra punters.

As for my appartment block, the work there is finished- and I must say that all the grief was actually worth it because it looks very swish.

The problem (as with your situation, I think) is that they're constructing new appartment blocks all around mine.
While it's actually quite fascinating to watch how they go about the task- I get a good view of the work from my top (6th)-floor flat, the noise is a bit of a problem. Access too, with pathways and somtimes roads being closed off.

We had an extension done at home in 2009 and the shop refitted because of lease requirements early 2010. It was like living on a bomb site in boith cases . I know how you feel.
