Do you believe in magic?
I was reading somewhere on the internet people comments on why they believe or don't believe in reincarnation. There was this guy called Andy who was asking for proofs... and I was thinking, do we need proofs to believe in whatever?
I'm not saying we should believe in the first crazy or absurd idea about afterlife we hear. I don't believe in reincarnation, I've never found my soul wandering that theme, but I do believe in magic (by magic I don't mean paranormal events). And I am wondering... do Andy and so many other people who think alike believe in magic? I guess they do, or life would pass their way without its charm (and there's no reason to believe it that way). But there are no proofs for magic. It can be found in life, in the mistery that sorrounds us. Even if things turned to be what we didn't want them to be there's still magic. (Now I'm thinking maybe that's where it comes from, from what we didn't reach, from what we lost, cause we still believe it ours, of our lives.)
An example of what I call magic is this (it might sound a bit stupid): the streets we walk, the streets we never met, all of them are the street.
It all must be a mix of memories and desires through the passage of time that creates an illusion... but is it just an illusion? When you think of a place you met in the past, that place means something within your life, you can feel it real and will still find connections to it. So that's what I call magic, "the connections" of people, places... through time.

Maybe the place for this thread is not science...
Bioy Casares' La invención de Morel (Morel's invention)
(SPOILER)
Wiki:
It is the story of a man who, evading justice, escapes to an island said to be infected with a mysterious fatal disease. Tourists arrive, and his fear of being discovered becomes a mixed emotion when he falls in love with one of them. He wants to tell her his feelings, but an anomalous phenomenon keeps them apart. Struggling to understand why everything seems to repeat, he realizes that all the people he sees there are actually recordings, made with a special machine, invented by Morel, which is able to record not only three-dimensional images, but also voices and scents, making it all undistinguishable from reality.

I don't really know what mouthful means but I like the word mouth+full... even if it means something different.
I don't go there talking about magic and such things but I was thinking about it and I'm interested in knowing what you think... how you see the world around you.
Sorry if my first post here was a bit sickly.

Sometimes you experience incredible things and the word magical seems to describe them . It may not really be magic , but it is a way to describe the experience.

Re: Do you believe in magic?
If it's really magic, it defies the laws of nature--it's supernatural.
And if it's really supernatural, it is not subject to the laws of the natural sciences.
So if it's really magic, science can't prove it, disprove it, or explain it.
Same as religion.

It is possible you may well be correct.

Re: Do you believe in magic?
I couldn't give a concrete definition about it. It has to do with space, time and memory creating an illusion that I perceive real. That's why I call it magic I think, because it creates an illusion that seems to be real (even more real than anything).
Maybe I'm talking about nothing. Trying to put into words a "sensation" or a belief makes me question it.

hahaha
who knows what I'm talking about...
I'm not so mystical but sometimes I find I trust more "beliefs" than reason... (and I don't mean those beliefs are the opposite to reason)

Thanks Andy!
I'm reading what wikipedia says about him and it sounds interesting.
Is his work difficult to read?
