The left side of the photo got cut off, otherwise you'd be able to see this--which is distinctively 18th century Spanish:

Captain Teague is actually playing a one-of-a-kind guitar made by a master luthier just for the movie. In fact the luthier made a half dozen unusual instruments (one with a sea-tortoise shell for the back) that can be seen in Captain Teague's lair.

The guitar in the picture is the most conventional looking--it has features of 300-400 year guitars (for example--the head stock with 10 tuning pegs instead of 6) but it has a somewhat more modern shape, with inlay that reminds me of a 19th-century Washburn.

Here's a genuine 350-year-old guitar (note that it has 10 strings):

Here we go--that's much better with the avatar moved out of the way.

Now you can see the headstock with 10 tuning pegs, and one of the other strange instruments.
