Lady Gaga avoids injury after Houston fall

by Chris Mugan, Posted Apr 12, 2011

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Lady-gaga233aaol-music-news-uk120411
Universal

As if her gigs were not already full of enough spectacle, Lady Gaga involuntarily added to the drama in Houston, Texas, on Sunday night when she fell off her piano.

The exuberant artist was performing 'You And I' when she tried to balance on her keys and piano stool, but lost her footing as the number came to a close.

In a video posted on YouTube, you can see Gaga land on her back – her head just missing the instrument -- but she immediately gets back on her feet to finish the song. And, bless her, she sings all the while.

No word from the self-professed mother monster whether she was actually injured in the incident, whose plans for world domination continue unabated. Having put out a countrified version of hit single 'Born This Way,' Gaga has now given the nod to a Bollywood remake.

I read an interesting article in the Nashville Scene about Mother Monster today:

How Lady Gaga's 'fake' is as real as any would-be hipster sensation's 'real'

by Jessica Hopper

There's this photo. In it, Lady Gaga is framed tight, center of the picture, shot from far away by staked-out paparazzi, perhaps hiding out behind a row of chairs or a ficus. There are blurred objects around the edges, and there are frames within the frames — distant glass security cordons. The dark, lumpy figure of a TSA agent looms to the left, hands near the star, extended rigidly, officially. Lady Gaga does not acknowledge the camera: She is not looking at it, but there is no part of her presentation that does not anticipate the camera's gaze, and subsequently, ours as well.

Lady Gaga is taking a trip and has arrived at Los Angeles International Airport in full pop regalia. She is not like the other blond pop singers — Madonna or Jessica Simpson — who deplane in comfort sweats with an adjective stitched to the booty, their makeup-free faces looking strangely unfamiliar, a ponytail sticking out from their ball cap. Gaga does not dress like she is headed home from a yoga workshop, even when flying across the continent. Gaga teases out the fan fantasy of the pop star by never dropping the act — she's like a superhero, never appearing out of uniform. She never snaps us back to reality; we stay with her in the weird, glamorous world she has made real. In this, she is conceding the duality of pop stardom: This is all surface and finessed-to-please presentation, an impossible manufacture. She one-ups all those who decry her work and platinum pop as not "real" music — because it's all "fake" — by making it the most fabulous fake that ever faking faked. To be sure, Gaga's "fake" is at least as real as the "real" of any self-conscious Brooklyn beardo 'bout to be discovered by Pitchfork.

Here, amid her TSA-administered security screening, Gaga is looking spectacular — as in, like a spectacle, which is how we want her to be — and she is not disappointing. She is wearing perilously tall (10-inch) Alexander McQueen platform heels, which the designer is said to have modeled after an armadillo. Their fronts arc from the ankle in a smooth crescent, like a toucan's bill if it pointed down instead of out. They are leathery and gleam in the light, and they look unlike shoes anyone's ever seen. Their protrusion is strange, but there is something natural to the line — it's easy to see them as hooves. Gaga's legs are covered only by what appear to be industrial-strength fishnet pantyhose (not stockings) that go up under her shiny black belt. Looped through the right front of the belt is a pair of metal handcuffs. Her flowing white wig cascades down over her bra, she wears round, Lennon-style sunglasses, there is a phone in her hand. Most of her outfit is accessories, as the only other clothing she has on is a pair of "nude" bikini underwear and a bra, and a golden jacket, of which she is wearing only one sleeve, with the other half seemingly tucked into her back waistband — a curious slip of modesty to cover one's ass while appearing nearly naked in public.

In this picture, we see Gaga as White Swan to out-of-control Britney Spears' Black Swan. Gaga's outfit is strikingly similar to the one worn by Spears in what is among the bleakest paparazzi shots taken during Brit-Brit's lost years (mid-2008), as she heads into a Beverly Hills boutique for a private 2 a.m. shopping spree. Spears is shown clad in ripped black fishnets, black boots, a black jacket and blood-stained underwear. She wears oversized black sunglasses, and her hair is dyed black — her weave a ratty mess — and there is a phone in her hand.

Though Gaga's work is as platinum-perfect (perhaps even more so) as Britney's, Gaga's work is rife with irony and self-possession — she satisfies with a strangeness, an otherness. She should by all means be the Black Swan of the two, and as she plays with the idea of pop's manufacture, she winks at us from atop her skyscraper heels. Being nearly nude in LAX, she obliges our most base wish — to see celebrities naked, to ogle them, completely. She acknowledges the ironies, the ruptures, the fantasies — she abides by them as she rips them apart — showing that she understands the real rule of popular entertainment: Give the people what they want.

Lady Gaga talks plastic surgery and wears facial horns on Harper's Bazaar

By Ruth Doherty, Apr 13, 2011

Lady Gaga graces the May issue of Harper's Bazaar- wearing prosthetic facial horns.

The controversial singer defends her use of the theatrical body makeup, claiming it's art, and far healthier than having plastic surgery.

She reveals: "I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have. I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification.

"I am an artist, and I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me."

She also says that once she had become a household name - after winning Grammys, after wrestling with Madonna on Saturday Night Live, after countless magazine covers - she felt pressured to move to the pop-culture mecca that is Los Angeles.

"I had all these number-one records, and I had sold all these albums, and it was sort of this turning point: 'Am I going to try and embrace Hollywood and assimilate to that culture?'"

Suffice to say, it wasn't for her. "I put my toe in that water, and it was a Kegel-exercise vaginal reaction where I clenched and had to retract immediately," she says in a very vivid metaphor!

"I ran furiously back to New York , to my old apartment, and I hung out with my friends, and I went to the same bars."

Lady Gaga wears condom-inspired latex outfit on U.S. morning show

By Jennifer Barton, Feb 18, 2011

Considering Lady Gaga's worn everything from raw meat to a giant egg, it's pretty clear her outfits take inspiration from all sorts of people and places.

So it shouldn't come as any surprise that her latest outfit pays homage to the condom.

Gaga appeared on U.S. morning show Good Morning America yesterday, dressed in a flesh-coloured latex ensemble and a hat with a rounded tip. During her interview she revealed that her clothing choice "today was a latex condom inspired outfit because we had to talk about safe sex," reports the New York Daily News.

The Gagster is the face and spokeswoman of Mac's Viva Glam campaign for the second season in a row, which advocates for HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness.

On the show, Gaga said: "I know my fans very well and they think it's cool to be aware about sex, aware about the world and aware about things like HIV and AIDS and protecting themselves," the paper reports.

"MAC doesn't just represent one kind of a woman or one kind of man. They represent all of us and they herald identity in such a powerful way," the singer said.

"I really hope... we can really make more people aware of how we can protect the future generation."

Bottoms up: Lady Gaga's cheeky look

By Jennifer Barton, Feb 25, 2011

We know Lady Gaga's cheeky, but this is getting ridiculous.

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Gaga-butt

The Mother Monster treated her little monsters to quite the view as she posed provocatively for her fans outside of Madison Square Garden after her show.

Wearing fishnets, a leotard, an elaborate-shouldered jacket, sunglasses and a bouffant hairdo, Gaga gave fans a butt-ful as she signed autographs.

We can only imagine how thrilled the little monsters were to be so close to Gaga's - well, everything. We hope she had a "you can look but you can't touch policy" at least

Sheer madness: Lady Gaga does convent wear

By Jennifer Barton, Feb 21, 2011

Lady Gaga's found religion. And there's no chance any church would approve.

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Gaga-nun

The singer, who was most recently spotted on a U.S. chat show paying homage to a condom with her outfit, has gone for another outré look as she performed in New Jersey for her Monster Ball Tour.

Gaga took to the stage wearing a nun's habit, sheer latex dress, nipple tape in the shape of crosses, knickers and white booties.

We've seen the sexed-up religion look before, from Gaga and musical predecessors like Madonna, and by Gaga's standards, this outfit doesn't seem more boundary-pushing than most. It's the kind of outfit we're in the, um, habit of seeing on her.

Lady Gaga slammed over Judas lyrics

by Candy Bellinger, Apr 17th 2011

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Gaganunpa
What a surprise - Lady Gaga is out to shock again. This time she has incurred the wrath of religious figures with her new musical offering Judas (couldn't see that one coming).

The song was released yesterday and has caused something of a furore thanks to lyrics such as: "I'm just a Holy Fool, oh baby he's so cruel, but I'm still in love with Judas, baby."

It hasn't gone down well with US group, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

President of the group Bill Donohue told HollywoodLife.com: "This is a stunt... Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general: she dresses as a nun... she swallows the rosary. She has not morphed into a caricature of herself."

He added: "She is trying to rip off Christian idolatry to shore up her talentless, mundane and boring performances."

Er... love her or loathe her, we're not sure Gaga could be called "mundane and boring".

Still, we fully expect the video to really get religious groups in a lather. Gaga has reportedly called it "the most exciting artistic moment of [her] career".

And according to Digital Spy, the film will tell Gaga's version of the Bible - co-director Laurieann Gibson has already declared: "It's really going to shock the world."

Ahh, shit. There is no telling what Gagaloo has up her ripped, bloody sleeve. I suppose giving birth to her own head in her last video wasn't shocking enough Razz "Boring" and "mundane" would be the last words that come to mind considering Gaga. P.S.- Hey, Catholics...I don't think she's talking Judas Iscariot, betrayer of Christ, here. Just a metaphor, me thinks alien

Madonna was certainly a big influence on Gaga, but their styles are much different. I like them both, but Gaga is my favorite, too. The video is being hailed as "The Bible according to Gaga", so there will undoubtedly be controversy a'plenty. The song itself is metaphor, but the video will be "up yours, Holy Church of Rome!"

Lady Gaga: 'talentless' and 'mundane', apparently

by Baggers, Apr 18th 2011

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Lady-gaga-evil-queenapmb233180411
Well this has got to be a first.

Lady Gaga might be wearing studded sunglasses and a snarl in this snap but she still looks positively demure next to the Evil Queen from Disney's Snow White.

Gaga was at the Walt Disney World Resort at the weekend as her world tour reached Orlando and her latest single, Judas, was released.

And quelle surprise, Gaga's gone and got herself into hot water with certain religious groups because of the 'blasphemous tone' of the song's lyrics.

Well it worked for Madonna.

Bill Donohue, of New York's Catholic League for Religious Civil Rights told HollywoodLife.com: "This is a stunt. Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general. She dresses as a nun. She swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself.

"She is trying to rip off Christian idolatry to shore up her talentless, mundane and boring performances."

Catholic campaigner to Lady Gaga: 'Go pick on Muslims'

by Matt Glazebrook, Posted Apr 21, 2011

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Gyi0064392767-gaga-233-

Lady Gaga hasn't even released her sure-to-be-controversial video for the single 'Judas' yet, and already the usual suspects are lining up to be outraged on TV talkshows. Bill Donahue, chairman of US advocacy group the Catholic League, appeared on Fox News this week to condemn in advance the promo clip -- set to be released on Easter Sunday and feature Gaga dressed up as Mary Magdalene -- and suggest the singer "go pick on Muslims and see how they handle it".

Gaga, who was raised a Roman Catholic in New York, issued 'Judas' as the second cut from upcoming album 'Born This Way' on Monday. The apparently biblical-themed video accompaniment will see the self-styled fame monster play Magdalene opposite 'Walking Dead' actor Norman Reedus as Judas Iscariot.

Donahue, whose previous campaigns have included opposition to Joan Osborne's 1996 dirge 'One Of Us', went on to compare the reaction of Catholics to perceived slights by pop stars to the supposedly more extreme responses of Muslims, Think Progress reports.

"You can't even show a depiction of Muhammad on TV, in the newspapers, and whatnot," the activist argued. "I'm not out there to say let's have equality by dumping on the Muslims. I'm simply saying why does it take fear as a motivational ethic on the part of some people to respect Muslim rights? Do they want Catholics to pick up a machete in order for them to get their rights?"

Donahue went to explain that he did not like the "timing", "pedigree" or "copycatting of Madonna" that he saw in Lady Gaga's as-yet-unreleased video. He concluded by making the pop icon an offer she surely will find hard to refuse: "You hang out with Bill Donohue, I'll buy you a beer, honey, and maybe we can straighten you out."

Lady Gaga: Madonna comparisons are 'retarded'

by Simon Jay Catling, Posted Apr 20, 2011

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Gagamadonna590

Ever the centre of attention, the outspoken Lady Gaga has drawn more attraction to herself by, in a recent interview, haughtily admonishing comparisons with Madonna as "retarded".

Speaking to the NME, Gaga was answering questions about February single 'Born This Way,' which the interviewer pointed out -- perhaps not unreasonably -- shared similarities with Madonna's 1989 single 'Express Yourself.' At this point the star lost her temper, saying "why the f---? I'm a songwriter ... Why would I try to put out a song and think I'm getting one over on everybody? That's retarded. If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression."

Continuing her profanity-laden tirade, Gawker reports Gaga exclaiming, "just because I'm the first f---ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn't mean I'm a plagiarist. It means I'm f---ing smart. Sorry."

Perhaps sensing she'd gone too far Gaga then changed tact, saying: "I feel like honestly that God sent me those lyrics and that melody... There's no way for something that pure to be wrong."

Lady Gaga goes on foul-mouthed rant in revealing NME cover interview

by Chris Cope, Posted Apr 19, 2011

Lady Gaga has gone expletive-happy in an interview with NME, exclaiming she has been "probed endlessly" about who she is -- but no-one really "has a clue".

The singer appears on the eye-catching cover of the magazine, which is available on Tuesday (19 April), in typically odd fashion -- in revealing attire and alien-like facial make-up.

She said even if she was stark naked she would still put on a great show -- dispelling the infatuation which surrounds her image, reports The Sun.

And she admitted she feels like she has been "probed" incessantly about her character and personality -- but despite the 'Born This Way' singer being "open" about herself, nobody has come close to figuring her out.

She said, "Let me tell you something. If you f------ rip my hairbow and my wig off my f------ head, my shoes, my bra, every single thing on my body, and you throw me on a piano with a microphone, I will f------ make you cry."

She added, "I feel I have been probed endlessly about who the f--- I am. I have been quite open about it. And still nobody seems to have a clue."

As previously reported by AOL Music, Gaga recently unveiled the cover art for her upcoming album 'Born This Way', which features the singer as half-human, half-motorbike.

Lady Gaga unveils 'Born This Way' album artwork?

by Andrew Kerr, Posted Apr 18, 2011

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Lady-gaga590aaol-music-news-uk180411-1
Twitpic

Lady Gaga has posted a series of photos via Twitter which seem to show the artwork for her much-hyped new album 'Born This Way'.

The first of the album shots to appear on her official Twitpic page comes with the words: "COVER BY NICK KNIGHT AND THE HAUS OF GAGA 5 † 23 † 11" and shows a black chopper-style motorcycle with Gaga's head superimposed where the headlight should be and her arms the struts to the front wheel. However the distinctly cut-and-paste approach seems far less slick than what we've become accustomed to -- this in turn has led some fans to speculate that the photo is a fake or decoy.

The second photo shows what is believed to be the singer, complete with 'Judas' themed nails, holding a copy of the album booklet. Alongside the snap-shot she tweeted; "So happy+free to finally share this w you, riding around with the booklet! Can't believe its here."

According to the accompanying tweet, the final album-related photo shows the "Original Born This Way on Left, Special Edition Album on right." Posted on Sunday (17 April), the deluxe edition cover features a close-up of the original 'headlight' headshot.

Reminiscent of the cover for Judas Priest's 1990 album 'Painkiller', the metal theme continues in her most recent post which shows Gaga and Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain, or as the tweet says "Sexy Beast. 666", posing together for the camera.

Gaga: 'I go to bed in my costumes'

by Stacey King, Apr 28th 2011

The continuing adventures of Lady Gaga Gaga284pa-1303991366
Lady Gaga has claimed that she often goes to bed in her outlandish stage costumes.

The pop phenomenon - who is as famous for her avant garde outfits as her music - told Ellen DeGeneres that she's become accostumed to waking up and discovering she's still got her stage gear on.

She said: "My best friends, who often will crash at hotels where I'm at... they will come visit me on the road, they always call me a beauty queen disaster.

"I wake up and my wig's falling off my head. My mole is on the other side of my face. My fake mole - it's not fake, it's surreal."

Yes, we're sure it is Gaga.

She also said that she finds her success overwhelming, continuing: "I'm 25 years old. I was asked to play Madison Square Garden. Sold out five nights and, quite frankly, it's very overwhelming."

Gaga was seen sobbing in an interview the other day when talking abotu being bullied as a girl.
