Last Play You Saw !

Post  Doc Watson on Mon Apr 18, 2011 10:35 am

On Saturday evening My lovely wife and I saw a play "Breast Wishes" It was a humerous look at breasts and as well it covered sensibly many of the problems breasts can cause. It also had a sensitive look at Breast Cancer.

Interesting, Doc.

I miss the theater. Before we had children, my husband and I went to the NYC theater frequently. I would go to the ballet at Lincoln Center myself, buying an $8 standing room ticket and then, when the theater went dark, slipping down to an orchestra seat.

I think the last play I saw was a monologue by the late, great Spalding Gray. Catch his fascinating monologue on film, Swimming to Cambodia.

I went to the theatre a lot in London

seeing as I don't have to be so cautious here and nervous.....I can just relax

last play I saw was Fat Pig......heheheh

just could really relate to it........

it wasn't very good

the theatre in London is amazing......not just London....all over the UK...I've seen wonderful plays........

but I'd rather be happy than cultured......Razz

We rarely went to plays etc when our children were younger because of the hassle of arranging sitters etc. However as they became more independent we have become subscribers to the play season . In Bendigo a large Australian regional centre we have a very good restored theatre and we get many touring plays.
A few weeks ago we saw "Tuesdays With Morrie" . That was outstanding.
When I was in London I saw "Spamalot"

I don't see much live theater, but I happened to catch two local community-theater productions in the last two weeks:

Moonlight and Magnolias

About the legendary 9th-hour decision to rewrite the script for "Gone With The Wind," bringing in a new director and writer with only 2 weeks to prepare for filming. David Selznick, Victor Flemming, and Ben Hecht pull two weeks of all-nighters, getting crazier and crazier.

Once on this Island

A low budget opera about an orphan peasant girl on a Caribbean island that wants to marry a Grand Homme (named Beauxhomme). She succeeds in becoming his mistress for 4 weeks, and is then booted out so Beauxhomme can marry an aristocratic lady, so the poor girl dies.

It's supposed to be based on "The Little Mermaid," but it reminded me more like Madame Butterfly.

A friend of mine plays the role of the Earth Mother who sings the show-stopping number "Mama Will Provide."

Last Night I saw "The Sum Of Us".
It was the story of a widower and his gay son and the relationship and understanding they had of each other's lives.
It had many funny one liners .
A much better play that the previous one I saw called "Raising The Flag" , which was so boring I could not even bother posying about it.

In an itty-bitty local community theater, I just saw Agatha Christy's "The Mouse Trap."

The actor who played Mr Paravicini told me that he imagined the character as not really an italian at all, but just an Englishman with a boring clerical job, who amused himself on vacation by pretending to be a foreigner. And in the play, he was trapped in his character once the investigation started. Laughing

That is a play I really want to see.

The play I saw last is still this one ...

... but there is an update: yesterday I was removing fallen trees from a Northern Virginia hiking trail, and an elderly Chinese couple on the trail stopped where I was working and asked:

"Aren't you Eugen Sandow?" flower

It's all about that historic day in 1993, when the following characters all performed at the Chicago World's  Fair, and all kinds of shenanigans took place between them--according to the playwright.

Eugen Sandow (I think his real name was something like George Mueller):

Florenz Ziegfield (yes, he was actually there):

Harry Houdini (who was actually named Eric Wiesz):

Bert Williams (possibly he wasn't really there, because he was in California).

Speaking of Houdini, he was a mentor to the conjoined Hilton sisters, the subjects of the last play (musical) that I saw, entitled "Sideshow."
