Are the movie theaters headed for oblivion?

Post  pinhedz on Mon Feb 09, 2015 1:45 am

That movie about Paganini opened in one theater on a Friday, and by the next Friday it was gone (evidently nobody bought any tickets Neutral ).

But I found out it only costs $4.99 to watch it on iTunes, and any number of people can watch. Shocked

So, at this rate, aren't people just going to stop going to the theaters altogether? Or will they still want to go to theaters to have a "going-out" experience?

Some theaters owners are banking on turning their theaters into bars. The theaters were never profitable just from ticket sales, they always counted on selling consumables. And booze--besides having the potential to draw folks into the theaters--is the most profitable consumable.  drunken

There are even one or two theaters in the area that have turned themselves into full-blown restaurants with servers. The servers have to bring the orders to the seats by way of sunken passageways, so that their heads won't block the view, and they have to communicate by passing notes back and forth with the customers.

Yes, there is also www.J4HI.com , but the DVD probably still costs more than a ticket (or not? )
