Are Habitable Binary Planets Possible?

Maybe.

BTWFWIW, I still am adamant in the insistence that dwarf planet Pluto and moon-satellite Charon are truly a binary planet. Thank you, International Astronomical Union ... thank you for being the prize dunder-heads of fraudulent chowder.

Possible? Hell, might even be likely. See, in a grazing collision the angular momentum is too high to be contained within a single rotating body (would fission) and if the bodies barely touch then they could retain their identity. Thing is, it requires an encounter where the bodies are initially approaching each other at low enough velocity.

Thi, of course, is the key point. And it is often pointed out that such an occurrence is extremely unlikely.

But every time that is pointed out, some other pinhed points that--given enough time, the extremely unlikely is inevitable.

So, yes. geek
