Pinhed takes mini-vacation to Richmond VA

Richmond is loaded with historical markers, and the place has associations with many momentous historical events.

The pinhed will make a visit there tomorrow.

In 1775, Patrick Henry delivered his famous “Give me Liberty or Give me Death” speech in St. John's Church, during the Second Virginia Convention. This speech is credited with convincing members of the House of Burgesses to pass a resolution delivering Virginia troops to the American Revolutionary War. One year later, in the throes of the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence.

The capitol building in Richmond was designed by Thomas Jefferson, so it has lots of statues of Jefferson along with statues of Robert E. Lee.

It also has a wall-sized painting by a Frenchman depicting Gen. Cornwallis's last stand in Yorktown--but it looks much more impressive in person:
