I have developed a 13 bar musical form, using only whole tone scales. It is called The Oranges.

I think Dot Wiggin did that ahead of you. Razz

16 bar--except for that pesky 3rd strain that those tin-pan-alley songwriters like to put in there.

Strings conducted by Gunther Schuller:

This one is actually 18 bars, but that's just because of that slow-down/add-on bit at the end of the verse:

16 bars, but with the chords moved around a bit--and no blue notes:

This, too, will fit into the 16-bar format, but with some surprise chord substitutions:

Minor key (you can't do minor with 12-bar--usually):

I don't understand Portuguese so good, but it sounds like the words must be something like this:

Come and sit by my side if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
And remember the Red River Valley
and the cowboy that loves you so true
Just remember the Red River Valley
and the cowboy that loves you so true

Yes, I know that repeating the second 8 bars makes it technically 24 bars, but the basic format is still 16 bars. bounce

Gospelish-sounding chorus, but both the verse and the chorus are 16-bar:

On Felix's instructions, I am moving this here (after the prelude part, the 16-bar structure becomes evident geek ).

I know we all remember with fondness that occasion when the immortal Robert Pete Williams  prefaced the song "Motherless Children Have a Hard Time" by declaring "This might sound like a blues, but it's a church song."

He proceeded to sing the song in 16-bar blues format. Laughing

And here we have the same situation again--a 16-bar blues sung by sanctified ladies:

!6 bars, the usual three chords (plus some incidentals).

So is it a true 16-bar blues?

Discuss.

It's by Pete Seeger, so if nothing else you know it's Volk.
