Metastasis by Iannis Xenakis

Post  Yakima Canutt on Sun Dec 09, 2012 3:35 pm

Now At this point in history Now There's a chance of liberty Now If we grasp what the future brings Now Everyone could live like kings Now With the power that's waiting there Now Everyone could take a share Now We can get what we dream about Now Times are changing, there can be no doubt
For the first time in centuries Maybe we can find some unity We don't want to hear about the enemy Other human beings are all we can see Now
Now With the whole world on T.V. Now You believe what you can see Now If we make our feelings known Now We can prove we are not alone Now There's a turning point in the world today This is not the time to turn away Now It's going to be a struggle if you choose the fight It's going to be a struggle 'til we all unite Now Now

I've often wondered how that would sound. Is it like taking letter strings like B-A-C-H or S-E-G-O-V-I-A and turning them into notes?

Pithoprakta (1956) is a piece by Iannis Xenakis for 46 string instruments, two trombones, xylophone, and woodblock.

The title translates as "actions through probability", and the piece is based on the statistical mechanics of gases, Gauss's law, or Brownian motion. Each instrument is conceived as a molecule obeying the Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution law, with Gaussian distribution of temperature fluctuation.
