OK--we've all had a nice break from science, but it's time to take off the clown suits and get back to science.

Here is a satellite that looks like it might be able to provide us with data that will contribute to the solution of the conundra that are currently bedeviling the scientists working on the IPCC's next consensus report (and the satellite was Al Gore's brain child, so we know it is free of conservative bias):

The Antarctic penguins recognize that their traditional way of life is threatened by climate change. Neutral

But they are ready to adapt--they just have to get used to the hot tub:

The pinhed, as we know, is a physical scientist, and therefore cannot talk to regular people. But sometimes the pinhed takes a peek at the social sciences just to see how normal folks talk. geek

Dr. Stephan Lewandowsky, PhD, at the University of Western Australia is a social scientist, and author of a peer-reviewed paper entitled “NASA faked the moon landing, and therefore (climate) science is a hoax.”

This paper essentially claims that the people who have doubts about anthropogenic global warming are the same nuts who say the moon landing was faked. Shocked

I was surprised to see the mass media taking notice of this paper, but it just came up in the Sydney Morning Herald (please excuse the funny spelling—the writer is Australian):

Paul Sheehan
Sydney Morning Herald columnist

" ... The paper was entitled "NASA faked the moon landing – therefore (climate) science is a hoax". The abstract of the study states: "Endorsement of a cluster of conspiracy theories (e.g., that the CIA killed Martin Luther King or that NASA faked the moon landing) predicts rejection of climate science … This provides confirmation of previous suggestions that conspiracist ideation contributes to the rejection of science."

Note the term "conspiracist ideation". The English language is being brutalised in the social sciences to create a false sense of rigour.

When Jussim checked the data, he found that of the 1145 participants in the study, only 10 thought the moon landing was a hoax. Of those who thought climate science was a hoax, almost all of them, 97.8 per cent, did NOT think the moon landing was a hoax.

The social psychologists who conducted the study had disguised the data and smothered it under a layer of obfuscation. No peer reviewer or journal editor took the time to check the raw data. Instead, the paper was published because it buttressed a pervasive ideological bias in the field."

Interested parties can read Dr. Lewandowsky's paper in full here: http://websites.psychology.uwa.edu.au/labs/cogscience/documents/LskyetalPsychScienceinPressClimateConspiracy.pdf

The warmists' predictions of CLIMATE CHAOS are coming true--they say that at 12:30 today life as we know it will come to an end in Northern Virginia. What a Face

More global warming = more homeless kittens. Crying or Very sad

When Kristina Vesk started working at the Cat Protection Society of NSW in 2006, she rarely saw kittens in winter. Now warmer weather means cats are breeding all year round, increasing the numbers of unwanted kittens and the threat to native wildlife from strays and feral cats.

Ms Vesk, the society’s chief executive, said there used to be weeks from June to September when the shelter saw very few, if any, kittens. But with the climate changing and temperatures rising, it seems cats are increasingly on heat.

“For the past three years, I don’t think we’ve experienced a full week at any time of year where we don’t have at least a couple of kittens in our care,” Ms Vesk said. “Kitten ‘season’ has grown longer and longer as we keep having … enough warm and sunny days in winter that make cats think it’s a good time to start breeding.”

Re: The REAL climate change thread

The pinhed does not ordinarily do music reviews on the Climate Change thread, but the radio is playing “Night in the Tropics” by Louis Moreau Gottschalk, which is such a wonderful composition, and relevant to the thread topic.

As we know, there are places in the world where people take a break during the hottest part of the day (it’s just common sense—you don’t want to die from heat stroke).

So in the tropics people often take a three-hour nap after lunch—which is called the “siesta” in Mexico.

Louis Moreau Gottschalk was born in New Orleans, but found he was happiest in Cuba.

His symphony “Night in the Tropics” depicts sunset in the tropics—while the people are sleeping off their dinner and waking up—followed (in the second movement) by their exuberance as the temperature turns cool, and everyone uses the cool night for PARTY TIME—totally wild and crazy—as wild as Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture.”

Some might say this symphony illustrates the adaptability of the Earth’s mammalian species.

Let’s hope that as the restrictions are loosened we’ll have more opportunities for fun getaways to Cuba. Very Happy

Gottschalk was so ahead of his time, who, in the 1859 would even think of writing a symphony with latin percussion ?

This just in from the Washington Post Weather Capitol Gang twitter feed--Alaska has been "baking" all winter winter:

" ... And, for the first time on record, not a single observing location in Alaska has recorded a temperature of minus-50 or colder."
