Russian Christmas tradition

Post  pinhedz on Mon Nov 26, 2012 1:28 am

This is really totally hilarious, if you've seen the original pic (which is like "It's a Wonderful Life" to the Russians). Laughing Laughing Laughing

"Listen to me, Alcoholik Alcoholikovich, this apartment has been passed on from one generation to the next for 3,000 years, dlya obespecheniya alkogolikov iz Moskvy! bounce "

"эта квартира обеспечивает нас алкоголиками из Москвы на протяжении трёх тысяч лет" Smile))

This screenplay would do Gogol' proud. Laughing Laughing

Without looking at your videos*...is that the movie where these guys get their friend drunk and take him like miles away and drop him off in a city that looks exactly the same as theirs ?

I had a guy from Moscow stay at my APT and when I asked him about it he gave me a big smile and told me all about it. I think it's like the National movie.

* I have Hughes.net and videos don't play well and / or they eat up my daily allowance.

Without even looking at the videos, you hit the nail on the head.

Actually, the guy flew from Moscow to St. Petersburg by accident when he was drunk (back before the airport security upgrades, this was actually plausible--especially in the Soviet Union).

Part of the satire had to do with the fact that Soviet-era apartment buildings were all identical, street names in Moscow and St. Petersburg were the same, and when the cab took the guy to the address he was given, the guy went to his apartment number and the key even worked in the door--that's how standardized everything was.

The movie became such a classic that the Russians made a sequel 30 years later.

In the last scene of the sequel, the male romantic lead (thinking he is back in Moscow with a hangover) dials the St. Petersburg girl with his cell phone. He is startled when the phone rings right behind him. He turns around and says:

He -- So, am I in your apartment, or are you in mine?

She -- What difference does it make? Razz

Merry Christmas. What a Face

"The Irony of Fate," first released in 1975.

Part two (in which the original leads appear--a bit aged) came out in 2007.
