Luz Casal's version of Mexican Agustín Lara's "Piensa en mí" (Think of me). It was included in the soundtrack for Almodóvar's film "Tacones Lejanos" (Distant Heels that I don't know why they translated it as High Heels)

Re: A la española
You probably won't remember this, but, my Mum & Dad were big fans of this song when we visited Spain in the 60's

Re: A la española
I'd never heard that song. He sings it in a funny accent
Adiós linda Candy / Goodbye lovely Candy
recordaré con amor / I'll remember with love
a tu mar español / your Spanish sea

Ray Heredia's "Alegría de vivir". It means "Joie de vivre" and it is a sad song.
This song was included in his first and last solo album. He died at age 28 (heroin), before the album was released.

Re: A la española
This must be the most internationally popular rock song by a Spanish band.
Had you heard it?

...a massive hit here as well. I still remember most of the words (I didn't realise Los Bravos was a Spanish band).

Re: A la española
I'm reading the singer is German. He used to spend his holidays in Mallorca where he met other boys and they started a band. Later in Madrid he and other boys formed "Los Bravos".

Si mi voz muriera en tierra...
Si mi voz muriera en tierra,
llevadla al nivel del mar
y dejadla en la ribera.
Llevadla al nivel del mar
y nombradla capitana
de un blanco bajel de guerra.
Oh mi voz condecorada
con la insignia marinera:
sobre el corazon un ancla
y sobre el ancla una estrella
y sobre la estrella el viento
y sobre el viento una vela!
Song
If my voice dies on land...
If my voice dies on land,
take it down to the sea
and leave it on the shore.
Take it down to the sea
and make it captain
of a white man-of-war.
Honor it with
a sailor’s medal:
over its heart an anchor,
and on the anchor a star,
and on the star the wind,
and on the wind a sail!

Re: A la española
This was one of my first posts on ATU I. If my memory serves me well Nash liked it.
LA PALOMA
Se equivocó la paloma.
Se equivocaba.
Por ir al norte fue al sur.
Creyó que el trigo era agua.
Se equivocaba.
Creyó que el mar era el cielo;
Que la noche, la mañana.
Se equivocaba.
Que las estrellas, rocío;
Que la calor, la nevada
Se equivocaba.
Que tu falda era tu blusa;
Que tu corazón, su casa.
Se equivocaba.
(Ella se durmió en la orilla.
Tú, en la cumbre de una rama.)
THE DOVE
The dove was mistaken.
She was mistaken.
Instead of north, she headed south.
She mistook wheat for water.
She was mistaken.
She mistook the sea for the sky;
the night for the morning.
She was mistaken.
That stars were dew,
that warmth was snow.
She was mistaken.
That your skirt was your blouse;
that your heart was her home.
She was mistaken.
(She fell asleep on the shore.
And you, on top of a bough.)

Enrique Morente's daughter, Estrella (like her father's song), is a cantaora too.

Potro de Rabia y Miel by Camarón de la Isla from the same titled album, his last album

Re: A la española
^ This album is fabulous. I had only listened to Camarón's La Leyenda del tiempo and never liked it as much as I like Potro de Rabia y Miel.
La calle de los lunares:
He already had lung cancer when he recorded the album. This plus the drugs problem made him die months later.

Re: A la española
I guess I can't leave without a copla...
Miguel Poveda - Coplas del querer
I listen to it in a very low volume so the neighbours don't know... but I think it's really good
Wiki:
The copla is a poetic form of four verses that provides found in many Spanish popular songs as well as in Spanish language literature. There is a related musical genre of the same name. The form is also found widely in Latin America. The name derives from the Latin copula, ("link" or "union").

I liked that, although it started like the typical empalagosa canción
