Was yesterday's earth-shaking event in central Russia (500 casualties) caused by a meteor or a meteorite? I'm not clear about this.

If this had happened a couple of decades ago, it might have triggered WWIII.

...and all the time that particular drama was playing out we had a close shave from an asteroid 'half the size of a football pitch'.

what's the reason they didn't see the meteorite? heard the other asteroid was somewhere that didn't interfere to take notice of the meteorite
