Maybe there never was a George Enescu thread

Post  pinhedz on Fri Apr 15, 2011 11:07 am

I think I might have brought him up in the context of the controversy over Jewish classical music (he's not Jewish, but the musical themes get all mixed up in Rumania and Bessarabia):

Where do you suppose those composers come up with that stuff?

I could have sworn I started a George Enescu thread long time ago.

Now I remember, we were talking about John Zorn--it was in the jazz area.

Now I hope President Harding will finally appreciate the importance of categories, definitions, and a consistent filing system.

Maybe, but he does have his hands full with that Teapot Dome Scandal.

Unesco should be removed from this planet and destroyed by bombs with the force of a thousand suns.

Do you belong to a militia? How many firearms do you own? When pulled over by police for a routine traffic violation, do you engage the officer in a constitutional debate? If you so, you will love the new taste of Domino's Pizza.

No. Yes. No-haven't been pulled over since I was 18. Don't like Domino's pizza.

Why do you ask?

You mean you DIDN'T like Domino's Pizza. Well my friend, Domino's Pizza has been reinvented from the ground UP. Domino's has faced their harshest critics and taken a good hard look in the mirror. Brand new crust, brand new sauce, fresh delicious cheese, robust toppings. There's love in this pizza.

I doubt that they improved if very much. But even if they have, the nearest Domino's is about an hour and half away.

Well worth the voyage. And how.

George Enescu was a very fine fiddler, but Gene Ionescu was mediocre, and Bobby Ray Unesco would get the hook if he ever tried to go on stage. bounce

They say they any piece Enescu played once, he could play thereafter from memory.

But, although he made his living from people that wanted to hear him play violin, he was apparently perturbed by it's limitations--it was not well suited (like the piano) to be a solo instrument.

One long-time friend heard him talking to his violin one time, saying "You are too small, my friend."
