FREE STUFF

You'd think people would google on the exact phrase "FREE STUFF" all the time, and come flocking to ATU.

For some reason, the flock was always meager, but hope springs eternal, so we will now restock.

Here we have "Vine Street Gypsy," one of the works of hot fiddler Paul Nero. It's out of print since 1950, so if you didn't get it here--you didn't get it:

And here we have the enigmatic "Vicki Victoria" (obviously a made-up name), about whom I know nothing, other than that if you didn't get it here, you didn't get this either.

Dave Ray had his own record company until 1978, but by then his company and his marriage were collapsing. He recorded an album in 1978, but never released it because he had to quit the music biz and run an insurance company for 15 years in order to put the kids through college.

When he returned to the music biz in the early 90s, he was very mellow, so many of his fans don't know that in 1978 he sounded like this:

What we need in these trying times is more FREE STUFF (rapidshare will try to get you to sign up, but you don't have to).

Here are two songs by QJ. If ever she puts out a commercial CD, everybody go out and pay full price.

On this one, besides the vocal (she's a tenor) QJ plays all the instrumental parts:

This is my favorite song by QJ--it tolls for thee:

Here are a few in other languages (Spanish and Portuguese).

Mariachi Questa with the lovely voice of Celina Rael (I had a nephew in the band):

Maria DaPaz singing my old tag line:

"O fole puxa, a gente chora
não tem lamento mais bonito nessa hora."

"The accordian plays and the people sing,
And it makes the pain more better for awhile."

Spider John Koerner, Dave Ray's buddy in the group "Koerner, Ray and Glover," also recorded solo.

In 1969 Koerner recorded his first album with an amplified band, but few know that he actually "went electric" on a single 3 years earlier. Of course the shock value of Bob Dylan doing the same thing in 1964 had worn off, so Spider John didn't attract any attention with this bold move.

Here's one side of the '66 single--called "Don't stop," recorded with a Mike Bloomfield sound-alike:

Here's an old pic of Judy Larson and Bill Hinkley:

They used to play in this band and released this album, which, much to my surprise, has just been re-released:

They played this one time on a radio show:

https://rapidshare.com/files/457736575/Larson-Hinckly_--_Rotten_Michael.mp3

I happen to have the words, so might as well ...

Rotten Michael
-- Judy Larson, vocal and guitar
-- Bill Hinkley, mandolin
-- Dick Hensold, Northumbrian small pipes

Rotten Mike expires
Pennies in his eyes
It’s doubtful ever that you’ll hear a choir.
For he is such a blackheart
That on the day he dies
The mourners they will surely have to hire.

And the sun will still shine
And no hearts will pine
For diamonds that lay dusty in the mine.

Oh, he had a rotten father,
A dirty rotten ma,
Who beat him every time he turned around.
And he grew to be such a bully boy
We always ran away
The moment that we saw him come around.

And if in that black heart
There was some love did shine,
‘Twas diamonds that lay dusty in the mine.

And on the day he dies
Just the rent collector sighs,
Although you might percieve tears
Caught in Michael’s glassy eyes.

Maybe even somewhere
His rotten mother cries.
Still it’s hard to hide just a little smile
When such a rotten bastard dies.

Rotten Mike expires
Pennies in his eyes
It’s doubtful ever that you’ll hear a choir.

This is obscure even among the obscure. The group was called "Mama's Home Cookin' "

I'm not sure who all the members were, and some of them probably wouldn't be able to remember making this record.

It's called "Some of You People Been Smokin' My Dope," and I already posted the lyrics on the "better than Bob" thread:

Here we have the artistry of Helen Wood. I understand she used to teach voice somewhere in Virginia. The song called "With Pleasures I Have Passed My Days" was written by Francis Hopkinson in the far distant past:

This is kind of different--balalaikas play Scot Joplin:

Here Mrs. pinhed sings an old Soviet soldier song (the girls come in on the second verse):

Rapidshare doesn't seem to be working like it used to--it keeps saying PLEASE WAIT.

They must want money--free stuff isn't what it used to be.

Since Rapidshare doesn't seem to work any more, does anybody know the current way to post audio on a forum? scratch

there are a gillion of those type operations ... but you cannot use Mega-Uploads because the infamous Dotcom Schmitz got his Gumball 3000 certified Mercedes Brabus SV12 Mega-Car impounded by the folk agents at ICE

Kottke does Bo Diddley live at the "No Exit" coffee house in 1968. At least 4 hands clapping at the end.
