A gift of Dave Ray to youtube

Post  pinhedz on Fri Apr 06, 2012 7:32 am

This eccentric digital artist who calls himself skipwaytube has posted about 30 videos of digital art work accompanied--for whatever reason--by classsic Dave Ray recordings.

Here's a real oddity. Dave starts out playing something that sounds like it's going to be a Spanish classical piece by Fernando Sor, or somebody like that (Dave started out on classical guitar), but then he takes a sharp turn and starts playing "Baby Please Don't Go," but then it shifts into something that sounds like "Baby Please Shake Your Flamenco Booty," and then gets off into some kind of 60s-progressive-guitar-improv stuff:

These 4 are from Dave's last solo album on the Elektra label (1967--he was still doing black impersonations):

Alabama Women

Kid Man

Married Woman Blues

You Got To Live

From 1997 solo album:

Spyglass Blues

Nifty starts and stops on this one, and an instrumental break full of surprises
(part of it sounds almost like Robert Pete Williams):

Here are some gems from Dave's final 4 years:

Person to Person (in which Dave states a negative opinion of virtual get togethers)

Things Have Gone To Pieces (performed with two friends, calling themselves "3 Bedroom Ramblers")

Rowdy Blues (performed with a bar band from Milwaukee)

Nice cheers - Dave takes Little Willie John's 1957 blues back to the country - here's Mr John:

I just noticed that skipwaytube appended Dave's rendition of "So Glad I'm Livin' " (original by Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup) as the 2nd half of that clip.
