I see that on the Jazz-I-don't-get-it thread (which was a heckuva fine thread, IMHO) I suggested some antiquarian music (going back to Jelly Roll Morton):

Somewhat more modern--but still easy to "get"--is Shorty Rogers.

At times he's on the verge of "cool," or on the verge of be-bop, but he doesn't quite cross the line.

Accessible as he is, Shorty does not treat his listeners with condescension, and the jazzniks that consider themselves "cool" do not, as far as I know, look down on Shorty, or call him retro or a commercial sellout.
