Ambrose Akinmusire
I just ordered the When the heart emerges glistening album by this young trumpet player.
The purchase was rather instinctive - sometimes those reactions turn out to be pure brilliance, sometimes you never really figure out what the Dickens you were thinking.
Anyway I was reading a jazz magazine which informed me this guy is a bit of a hype on the jazz scene, sometimes refered to as the new Miles Davis.
I always hate it when people are framed as the new this or that: either it shows they're really not new at all but interesting copy cats at best, or it points to the lack of imagine by the men of the press.
So I checked him out on the 'Tube and must admit I liked what I heard quite a bit.
Sure, the album title sounds like a Take that reunion concert, sure the cover looks like the type of stuff Bowie would put on his albums in the mid 90s but the guy does sound bonafide.
Here's an interestig tune called 'Confessions to my unborn daughter' - yes, he needs a title manager asap:
Alors, qu'est-ce qu'on pense?

'With love' - not the most original title but at least acceptable.
A ballad, quoi.

He has fans in high places or so it would seem.
What 'pop' guest could be more of a compliment in the crowd of young jazz performer?

Ambrose displaying his abilities as an interesting live perfomer in a fine traditional quintet setting:

Is it me or is Jazz' afterlife more interesting than rock's retirement?

Re: Ambrose Akinmusire
Well, I'm not really sure.
There's tons of boring rock music and tour passing by.
So it reminds me of an old man who has nothing left to say and can't keep his mouth shut.
A coma is another option of course, I admit.
