“Drinking is an emotional thing. It joggles you out of the standardism of everyday life, out of everything being the same. It yanks you out of your body and your mind and throws you against the wall. I have the feeling that drinking is a form of suicide where you're allowed to return to life and begin all over the next day. It's like killing yourself, and then you're reborn. I guess I've lived about ten or fifteen thousand lives now.”

Some People
by Charles Bukowski

some people never go crazy.
me, sometimes I'll lie down behind the couch
for 3 or 4 days.
they'll find me there.
it's Cherub, they'll say, and
they pour wine down my throat
rub my chest
sprinkle me with oils.
then, I'll rise with a roar,
rant, rage -
curse them and the universe
as I send them scattering over the
lawn.
I'll feel much better,
sit down to toast and eggs,
hum a little tune,
suddenly become as lovable as a
pink
overfed whale.
some people never go crazy.
what truly horrible lives
they must lead.

Yesterday I had one of those moments in which I only cry and cry after drinking more than I should... Rolling Eyes

I remember the first time this happenned to me it was a festivity day in a town and it was already morning. I was crying as if I had lost someone and fell asleep on a bench. When I woke up I was alone (how nice... my friend Laughing ).

"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy".

(Attributed to Tom Waits by Patrick Humphries in his Waits biography, but I suspect that the saying pre-dates Waits.)

Work is the curse of the drinking classes.

I heard it was W.C. Fields, but Wiki says Dorothy Parker (which seems a better fit).

We'll never know for sure, I reckon, but it's way older than Tom.

It occurs to me that in Dorothy Parker's time, it was quite possible that a frontal lobotomy would have been proposed to treat her mental condition.

Well, it certainly relieved Sir William Withey Gull's homicidal symptoms:

I finally drank cava, beer and a bit of pisco (liquor from grapes). I never tried pisco before.

I've got a hangover which I'm treating medicinally with a "hair of the dog". Can't go over the top today though because I'm working the 12:00 shift on the 26th (Boxing Day in the UK).

But now it's the opposite... I feel happy (maybe because I'm still drinking)

What "hair of the dog" means here?
I eat dog's hair a lot (Leo's) hehe
