Alban Berg's "Lulu"

Post  pinhedz on Mon Oct 24, 2011 11:00 am

Lulu is an opera by the composer Alban Berg, with a libretto adapted by Berg himself from Frank Wedekind's plays Erdgeist (Earth Spirit, 1895) and Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box, 1904).

Berg left the orchestration unfinished in 1935, but it was finally completed and performed in 1979.

I've heard a rumor that Lou Reed and Metallica have recorded an album based on Wedekind's plays.

I have not seen or heard Lulu, but I've read that the opera really is a Lulu:

Doesn't our old friend Jack the Ripper dispose of the eponymous heroine in the end? It's been a very long time since I read Wedekind.
