What's the best bit torrent site?

Post  Lee Van Queef on Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:41 am

I've usually used 'Vuze', but it doesn't seem to work for me anymore, which is very annoying.

Anyone know of any good ones please?

Ha, you're asking the wrong person really! And I think I actually meant to say bit torrent application, rather than site.

Basically it is a file sharing network that I use to search and download stuff. It's best to google bittorrent and get an actual explanation, because I don't really know. Very Happy

I download everything using megaupload, rapidshare, etc.

If you're going to download something that is very big (with a lot of parts... like a movie) you can use a program called jdownloader that will download all the parts from megaupload, etc by itself.

I used to have jdownloader, it was very useful. But I'll take torrents any day of the week.

Thanks for your responses everyone.

Basically, my issue is actually with Internet Explorer 9. For starters, when I click on it it pops up for a milisecond then dissapears. That's all I geat. I wouldn't usually care, as I don't use IE, but apparently Vuze needs it as it "embedds IE components to show web content and some of its own pages". I'm guessing IE9 not working is the reason for Vuze not working for me. But the plot thickens, as I can't uninstall IE. I know how to uninstall IE properly, but whenever I try to either do that or turn it off it says: "An error has occured. Not all of the features were successfully uninstalled/changed".

So basically, if anyone knows how the hell I get can get rid of or reinstall IE, then please do let me know! I currently can't download a different version as it tells me I have the most update version!

Do you guys ever get virus' downloading from these sites? I know I got a couple of things from piratebay in the past I think. I swear I'm the unluckiest guy ever with these computer virus'! (I even pay for my bloody protection!)

No. Be smart about it. Don't click any of the ads on the site. Make sure to check the files in the torrent before downloading, and check who the uploader is. Trustworthy uploaders have little green or purple skulls next to their names. If you're downloading music or movies, you're fine. Just make sure you ONLY download the music and movie files. There's no way you can get a virus from that. Don't download ANYTHING that is an executable file. Unless of course that's what you want, and you're downloading some type of program...in which case you're taking a gamble each time.

Also, download Google Chrome or Firefox and ditch Internet Explorer.

I don't even have an antivirus program on my computer and I use TPB all the time. Demonoid is much safer though.

Ah crap, having all sorts of issues already! For PirateBay it said that I had to use it I had to download 'Miro', which I have done. For the next stage I had to click on something that subscribed piratebay to Miro. Which I did, but it didn't work. It doesnt appear on Miro like it says it should on the screen shot as it says here: http://thepiratebay.org/help

Paladin wrote:Demonoid

As for Demonoid, it says I have to be invited to use it. Is that right?

I don't know what the fuck Miro is or why you downloaded it. If you have Vuze you should just be able to use that. I use Bit Torrent.

And yeah you need an invite for Demonoid. I can send you one.

Yep, it was disgusting.

But don't worry, the rest of times it was standard porn. I prefer homemade porn though hehe (by homemade I mean amateur, not mine...)

Hey... if we keep writing "porn" maybe we will attract some interesting posters to this forum cyclops

Okay, I have just downloaded BitTorrent and now can download from PirateBay. The film I wanted to download is now downloading and is nearly 2% in already. So fingers crossed I've done it right and I'll be able to watch it! (not that I actually want to bloody watch it anyway, it's for my gf).

Thanks for the offer of Demonoid, but I guess I won't need it if this all works OK. I'll let you know how I get on. cheers

Once again, cheers for the help.

Toorgle.com Toorgle is a torrent metasearch engine based on Google technology. Like any metasearch service, your searches result from multiple other search engines on the Web. Toorgle retrieves the location of these files for you as a kind of matchmaking service. It's quick to use. Just make sure you take the time to choose those torrents that have positive comments and are verified by users.

Torlock Torlock is special. These folks actually pay their users commission for uncovering fake torrents and reporting it to their community. In a world of phony files, this is a tremendous service. If you are a regular downloader, and are tired of wasted downloads and fraudulent files, give Torlock a try.

Torrents.to This site has a Tonga country domain name, but certainly offers plentiful metasearching of movies and music in English and Spanish. There are some popup advertisements that are annoying, but perhaps you might like the framed interface for searching other torrent sites.

Demonoid.me Demonoid is a longtime semi-private community, and members are held liable for any leeching that their invited friends do in this community. If you are lucky enough to get a Demonoid membership, invite your friends carefully, lest you lose your own membership. This site is one of the pillars of P2P culture, and is home to thousands of serious P2P users.

Isohunt.com Isohunt is a longtime site that has earned both the respect of P2P users everywhere...and the negative attention of the recording industry. While being sued by the CRIA, the Isohunt team continues to provide solid service. The Isohunt community monitors itself for fake files. When choosing your torrents, read the user comments, and only trust those files that have earned multiple green positive replies at Isohunt. Avoid any torrents that have red font numbers and negative comments, and you should be have good experiences at Isohunt. NOTE: adult advertising has become very prevalent at Isohunt, but if you can put up with the skimpily-clad girls, this site continues to be one of the true standout torrent services.

Kick Ass Torrents.com This site is a newer favorite with a growing community. The interface is a distinctive earth color, and the search results display in a useful format of columns, including torrent health. The best part of Kick Ass Torrents is their comment and feedback system... the user community watches the quality of torrents, and offers their recommendations and warnings.

Torrent Funk: Torrent Funk is a very popular torrent search site that now supports commenting. While Torrent Funk also supports 'verified status' tagging, which some people prefer to comments. The interface can be difficult to discern between sponsored ads and the actual torrent links. But the Torrent Funk site layout is pleasing, the cross-movie recommendations are very helpful, and several About.com readers highly recommended Torrent Funk. Give this site a try, and watch if it will grow over time.

Flixflux: a UK torrent site that is very popular with European downloaders. The advertising is not suitable for young people, and the sponsored links get mixed in with the torrent results. But many UK readers highly recommend this site for movies and music.

Fenopy has some compelling features. Fenopy is fully integrated with IMDB and Last.fm radio, so it offers engaging information for discovering movies and music. A graphics gallery of large and motivating thumbnails adorns the home page, and the fake finder feature is also very useful for avoiding bad files. Definitely give Fenopy a try.

TorrentZap: TorrentZap is not as large of a catalog as other torrent search engines. And, as with all sites, you need to endure advertising to keep it a no-cost service. But the interface is clean, bright, and easy to navigate. Try this site out, skip past the 'external search results' to find the real torrents at TorrentZap, and let us know what you think.

Torrentcafe.com This site is relatively new, and needs to grow its user base some more. But Torrentcafe comes highly recommended by several About.com readers, so please give it a try and let us know how you like it.

LinuxTracker.org (For legal linux torrents and virtual machines.)

Torrent Root: as another metasearch engine, Torrent Root will scan through other search engines on your behalf, and display the results in a slick tabbed interface.

Torrent Tree: This search site is written in Ajax code language. Like any metasearch engine, Torrent Tree pulls its results from many other search engines. But Torrent Tree pulls *more* search results than any other current metasearcher. Definitely give this site a try.

CinemaTorrents: this site offers something really unique: IMDB ratings and vote information right on the search page. You can see public opinions on the movie itself before you download.

BitSnoop.com This site was recommended by reader Melody, who speaks very highly about its navigability, reliability, and clean design. Using a growing community of users to help police the content, BitSnoop offers minimal advertising and reassuring tagging of good torrents. Look for the green 'verified' tags, and you're bound to find good downloads here. Definitely try BitSnoop.com, and let us know what you think of this newer site.

Torrentbit.nl This Netherlands site offers a simple interface and large index of torrents. It also offers a broad selection of European language movies and music.

Plentyoftorrents: this is a kind of launchpad search engine that offers choices where you want to search. Multiple users have recommended Plentyoftorrents this summer; let us know what you think of this site.

Nowtorrents.com Now Torrents (allegedly) offers a special service: it filters out fake/dead torrents. It also offers date-range searching, so you can search for specific years of content (e.g. Flight of the Conchords, 2008).

Blues Brothers: Blues Brothers is a private site with a strong community and file-sharing ethic. As a private site, you can expect the leeching (selfish) users to be reduced. The BB community also strives to police itself by carefully watching each member's upload ratio... if you abuse your ratio, you are blocked from downloading until you donate. This policy may seem a bit harsh, but members seem to really appreciate it.

There are many films that are far worse than "Plan 9 From Outer Space," most of them made by Golan Globus.

Thanks for the info User.

It seems John Hillcoat's 'Lawless' isn't available for illegal download yet. It's doing my head in, I want to see it right this second and am not willing to wait any longer.

Am also looking forward to seeing 'Killing the Softly' and 'Moonrise Kingdom'. But it is 'Lawless' that I must see immediately. Reviews are meh.
