Sherlock Holmes

Post  Dick Fitzwell on Thu Sep 15, 2011 6:45 am

I just watched the British mini-series "Sherlock" and now I want to watch some more Sherlock Holmes adaptations. Which ones are the best? According to Wikipedia, Sherlock Holmes is the most portrayed character in movie history so there are a lot to choose from.

I think Hayao Miyazaki directed some episodes.

Jeremy Brett was one of the best of all Sherlocks. He played Holmes in a series of adaptations produced by Granada Television in the 1980s and 1990s. Here's the wikithingy on Brett's Holmes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Brett#As_Sherlock_Holmes

The Woz believes the most best Young Sherlock was Nicholas Rowe

The Woz felt Bobby Duvall was the best Doc Watson, and the best greatest Mycroftly Holmes was being played by the professional known as Count Francisco Dooku Scaramanga Summering, Lord of White Curumogard

Nicky Meyer made Spock a relative (yes, genetic) of Sherlocks (in ST6), but I think some Meyer things can be dismissed from canon ... LIKE FUCKING UHURA NOT KNOWING HOW TO SPEAK KLINGON ... AND USING A KLINGON DICTIONARY MADE FROM PAPER TO MUDDLE HER WAY THRU ... YES IT IS OK TO LIGHTEN THINGS UP ... BUT NOT THAT WAY ... INSULTING TO NICHELLE, WHO DOESN'T GET A LOT OF SCENES, AND DEMEANING TO THE CHARACTER ... NICHELLE COMPLAINED, BUT MEYER IGNORED HER, HE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GREAT JOKE, BUT THE JOKE IS ON HIM

the film YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES, contains one of the early examples of computer generated special effects ( a stained-glassed window guy comes to shocking life), worked on by John Lasseter, who would become the PIXAR majordomo
