Spinetta is probably the most appreciated Argentinian rock musician (not as famous as Calamaro though)

With Almendra (a band):
Plegaria para un niño dormido (Prayer for a child asleep)

Plegaria para un niño dormido / Prayer for a child asleep
Quizás tenga flores en su ombligo / Maybe he has flowers in his navel
y además, en sus dedos que se vuelven pan, / and furthermore, in his fingers turning into bread,
barcos de papel sin alta mar / paper ships without high seas

This is the first Spinetta's song I heard (on the radio)

Almendra - Laura va (Laura goes)

Laura va / Laura goes
lentamente guarda en su valija gris / slowly she puts in her gray suitcase
el final / the ending
de toda una vida de penas / of a life full of sadness

(sory for the poor translation)

Almendra (again) - Muchacha (ojos de papel)

Muchacha (ojos de papel) / Girl (eyes of paper)
¿A dónde vas? / Where do you go?
Quédate hasta el alba / Stay until the dawn

The lyrics of Girl and its new poetic style, reflected the feelings accurately of a whole Argentinian young people generation immersed at that time in sexual Revolution.

The philosopher Alexander Rozitchner in a detailed analysis of the lyrics defines the song as one “beast of the emotion” and emphasizes the invitation of Spinetta to her girlfriend to dream “a slow dream between my hands”, remembering that when listened to that part being adolescent, had desire to cry with emotion: The culminating moment of the song is when he tells the girl “honey breasts, don't run anymore, stay until the day” ; when Spinetta passes from “paper eyes” to “honey breasts”. It is the unique direct erotic reference and indicates with extreme gentleness the concretion of the sexual act. Finally Rozitchner, when to reflect on last verse, that says “when everything sleeps I will rob a color to you”, considers expression of new Moral loving.

This is very nice

Barro, tal vez (Maybe clay)

Si no canto lo que siento lo que siento / If I don't sing what I feel
me voy a morir por dentro / I'm going to die inside
he de gritarle a los vientos hasta reventar / I have to shout at the wind until I break - (I love that he is actually whispering this line)
aunque sólo quede tiempo en mi lugar / although only time remains instead in my place

[...]

Ya lo estoy queriendo / I already want it this way
ya me estoy volviendo / I'm already turning
canción barro tal vez.... / into song, maybe clay

I've just read this is the first song he wrote, he was fifteen.

He was saying new things for the time in Argentina... then and during all his career he kept it far away from being insolent, he did it in a gentle way. This is what attracts me most, that his music, all of it, voice, lyrics, guitar, melody... everything about it is noble and gentle.

That contrasts with a let's-just-be-provocative attitude where there is no room for that. In a song he sings "si quiero me toco el alma" ("if I wish to, I touch my soul")... that's the way he was provocative

And his work is very original.
