As I recall, the old "Talent vs sex-appeal" thread was mostly just an excuse to post pictures of Anne-Sofie Mutter:

And Nurgaysha Sadvakasova:

And Eleonora Bekova:

I hear you asking "What instrument does Eleonora play?"

Piano.

My favorite violinist to listen to with my eyes closed is Sergiu Luca:

Anne-Sofie Mutter does not smile much--her look is usually of grim concentration. And she's not much for acknowledging the audience with a warm look or a wave:

One reviewer evaluated her playing as "cold perfection."

Poppycock--her playing is highly expressive, even passionate. But perfect? No, far from perfect.

I can only conclude that reviewer was reviewing her gown, her figure and her 'tude--not her music.

The fist girl I consciously liked played violin. She took playing violin seriously... she took everything seriously. And had this thing as though Svetlana had told her "be an agressive woman".

Was she anything like this? I love you

To play this--you have to know how.

David Oistrakh had the most consistently beautiful tone of any violinist, but he was somewhat jowly in appearance:

So the record companies put sexy gypsy girls on his album covers:

Update on Eleonora Bekova.

I am sorry to have to report that she relocated from Kazakhstan to London, and recently spend a night in jail for "beating up her husband." Neutral

"Soloist Eleonora Bekova, 59, who has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, was questioned by police after her husband Philip Lingard complained that she had assaulted him."

"The couple, who have been married for 13 years but live apart, rowed at Ms Bekova’s South-West London home last month."

"Accountant Mr. Lingard told police that bruising on his body was caused by an attack, leading to Ms Bekova’s arrest on Tuesday, when she claims she spent eight hours being questioned in a cell."

"But Ms Bekova, who founded a music festival in her native Kazakhstan with Princess Michael of Kent as patron, denied hitting him and said: ‘I don’t know why he is trying to ruin my reputation.' "

" ‘I have given him a lot of money and am now working very hard to make ends meet, so this is very upsetting.’ "
